but have you ever seen bike shorts worn backwards? Saw it with my own eyes on the big local century this weekend.

By the way, watching all the local drivers go berserk over the invasion of their quiet country roads was priceless. I used to feel a little empathy because they don't really ask for traffic to go to hell for one Saturday a year, but after all of the harassment I've received in that neck of the woods lately, I found it quite fun to watch.

Did you tell the wearer? It's sort of a hanging booger thing, they'd probably rather know.

The most epic display I ever saw of the backwards shorts was on the Devil's Kitchen climb during the 1990 Tour de Trump. College teammate and I roadtripped to see the end fo the race, including DK.

Get a good spot early on, broke out the spray paint for the roads, etc. At some point, some guy comes up the road, grinding, grinding, grinding. Some POS bike but he is giving it all he had. As he passes us, we notice that his shorts looked funny. All bunched up in front, etc. Sure enough as he passes us, his ass is half-exposed to the world as he is climbing DK. Dude had his shorts on backwards so the chamois was all bunched up in front and the low cut for the waist was down around his ass. I've got a pic of it somewhere.....if I can find it, I'll scan it and post it.

Last week at a lake swim here, we had a noob join us and I lent him my old wetsuit. (Young kid with a fookin' Ferrari engine.....but he doesn't even know what he doesn't know). Wiggles his way into the suit and he put it on backwards, with the zipper in front. Oooops.....no wonder it was comfortable (or easy to put on!!)

Side note - kid crossed the line 4th overall yesterday in a pretty big tri, but got dinged with a 2 min penalty for riding on the left side of the road. Like I said, he doesn't know what he doesn't know....yet. But he is fookin' FAST!!!

in the Snoqualmie Valley, just east of Seattle, out at the fringes of the urban-growth boundary where Microsofties go and think they are getting away from it all.

Interesting event. The demographics have changed a lot since I first did this ride more than 15 yrs ago. Aside from the size (it's now more than 3k), I saw Latino clubs and a Malasian club and more Indian riders than I've ever seen. More ladies too. Not just the same old white guys. But there seem to be fewer fast club riders and semi-organized pacelines have all but disappeared. Great day on the new Moots, even have the beginnings of a summer tan.

That is worse than the infamous "bib short suspenders OVER the jersey" look.

Interesting, I didn't think it was physically possible to put bike shorts on backwards, or a helmet for that matter. The wetsuit, that I can see.

Couple months ago I was so beat at work, I initially put my knickers on inside out. I caught myself before exiting the change room and exposing myself to the world.

Actual race photo.....

Years ago, I sold a new bike and Giro Air Atacck to a guy who also joined our cycling team. Shows up for his first ride with us and put the Air Attack on backwards.....I greeted him off to the side "Hey great you could come out. Nice to have you here! By the way, you may wanna do a quick 180 on the helmet." Guy realizes what he has done and responds with "Oh, yeah, yeah...right." Flips the lid around and says he was going to go warm-up. We never saw him again......

I'll note from the numbers on his leg that this is a tri-guy. His brain must have froze in the water.

When I began riding again in my late 40's, I decide that a helmet was a good idea. Bought one of those Styrofoam with netting around it type. So I am riding and telling all of my friends how cool it is to be back on the bike, the cool gear, the new helmets, etc.
Anyways, one day a bunch of us employees are going to lunch together and I see a guy on a bike riding and I say... "Hey check that guy out. He has his helmet on backwards." Yuk. Yuk. On our way back I see another guy with his helmet on backwards and mention it again. Yuk. Yuk. Then I see a third guy with his helmet on back.......... Heeeeyyyyy :-0
I still laugh when I think about it. Also I have quietly helped a few other new riders when I notice that their gear is wrong. Yup. Been there. Done that.

I have hears of worse things. People renting ski boots and coming back complying how bad their feet hurt. Boots on the wrong feet. Hey my sister told me about some meeting she was at in Tokyo and her feet were killing her after many hours. Yes she had her shoes on the wrong feet. All day. I told her she shouldn't let that get around.

I did a Fondu last year in New Jersey and early on when everyone was together in a huge group we went down a narrow, bucolic, ridge road with gated house complexes. Real pretty and mellow - awesome start to the day. Then this geezer in a giant E-Class Mercedes shows up and wants to turn into his place and he just starts going apesh*t. Yelling about taxes and his road - blah, blah, blah. Priceless, and everyone just started laughing at him. White people are a trip sometimes

I did probably the stupidest thing on a bike when I was quite adept. I was way into racing, and doing a lot of riding, so I was very comfortable on the bike. Taking-off-a-base-layer-while-riding comfortable. So, one day I notice the end cap is coming out of my handlebars. No problem, I'll just give it a good whack...while riding. D'oh! Quite a swerve, but didn't go down, or take anyone else. LOL.

Got a better one - Tried to stand up on pedals both at 3 and 9 O'clock at about 10mph with hands in the air. Went down like sack of potatoes.
