Bwahaha....

We've got a fun-hating state representative targeting bikes again.

This time it's a proposed law for a mandatory bike mounted hi-viz flag that extends 15' above the road.

Everyone should be flying an orange flag. This rocks.

15 feet above the road? For aircraft? Birds? As a driver, I don't get it. I don't spend much time with my eyes focused 5' above the road signs.

I just thought about this a little more. Maybe it will improve the odds cycling. Suppose gullible drivers focus their vision that high. Think of all the accidents, the removal of drivers, the cleansing of the gene pool.

"In another staggering display of myopic leadership, Missouri’s 43rd District Representative, Jay Houghton, has upped the ante with his attempt to take the lead in this horse race."

this should read. . .

Some people just have zero common sense. Would have thought someone working for him would have checked out the consequences/ramifications of running a flag that high.
No comments in the web page about the story; kind of odd.

He did admit it was asinine but was trying to get some discussion going. The problem is he's made idiotic proposals in the past-- allowing four-wheelers on the Katy Trail bike path, banning bikes on roads if there's a bike trail in the vicinity, banning bikes on state roads. I called the representative that covers my district to voice a concern a couple years ago on one of these and was told she (my rep) has no intention of voting for it and that the Houghton is basically an ass.

One of the local bike shops stuck a 15' flag on a bike and parked it out front of the store to mock the idea. It was awesome!

Every state has one of these bozos. I just hope there is only one per state but unfortunately there's often two and they end up in the US senate.

Your elected officials are better than Comedy Central - I will give you that.

This election year has been exceptionally entertaining.

This would add five or ten miles to every ride from my house since I would have to take a different route to avoid the 11'3" or 10'1" train bridges.

Heck, a few years ago we elected a dead man to the senate. Missouri can be pretty awesome in it's wackiness.

At least we have two pro football teams... ah, let me get back with you on that.
