This is a good read. The joy of cycling shouldn't be controversial anywhere. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/23/world/middleeast/gaza-women-on-bikes-face-a-long-road-to-acceptance.html?_r=0 (My apologies that I still don't know how to make a link live).

It is just amazing how screwed up, and how ancient these cultures seem in that part of the world

Perspective guys. 130 years ago it wasn't that different in this country or the UK. And the good part is the bicycle is probably going to do the same thing over there it did here (to the dismay of the men).

Slightly further down the road to enlightenment - Afghanistan.

I have a photo of our first woman national champion, Doris Kopsky, 1937. She is sitting up on her bike, hands on the shoulders of the two men beside her on their bikes. Racing attire that would look completely in place now (if her shorts were a lot longer!) It wasn't much of a race. Kopsey's dad was an ex-pro who built her a bike that fit. (In addition to seeing photos of her on it, I have met her and seen the bike at a trade show. The first true woman's racing bike.) She rode and raced with the men of the club. Completely scandalous behavior. But it put her in a different league from all the other women.

This one is funny GC:

Joking aside, Cape Breton is must see; awesome place for scenery and awesome dialects.
