Looking for advice on a respirator. Gutting my new place to the studs. So I'll be removing drywall, as well as insulation. What type of respirator should I purchase? Or should I ask how much do I really need to spend on one? Grazie

Just dust? No vapors? Get the 3M cloth dust masks with the two yellow straps. They are not cheap but do last quite a while. Limiting factor is the straps. They break. To maximize their life, pre-stretch threm gently and be careful with the on and off. Skip the paper ones with the thinner round elastic. The far more expensive cloth ones will fit your face far better.

I used those masks throughout my boat building days and now for projects like yours. Another one of 3Ms good products. (A boss cutting corners and buying non-3M masking tape? That was grounds for a work stoppage.)

Nice project. My daughter/ son-in-law took out a wall between too rooms and it completely changed the feel of the home. It became much more inviting and airy.

I didn't take out walls but I did cut two large openings ("windows") into the adjacent inside walls of my kitchen. It used to be the kid's table, then almost dead space after I bought the house. Completely changed the feel of all three rooms, the kitchen, the dining room and the living room. Plus the music were are listening to (or a game) sounds nearly as good in the kitchen. Put a small counter top along the "sill" of the openings.

Actually, that pony wall was part of the original design. We've since come up with a revision, so that will come down as well.

All about the DIY. Just put down some saltillo tile in my wife's vanity/closet-attached to the bathroom spot. Starting the LONG haul of redoing the front yard after 15 years. I had help widening the concrete driveway in '02. Now I think I can handle pouring a slab with only my kid's help. The original part of the driveway is about 60 years old, and is almost as much patch as original.

You've probably already done this, and don't need anymore mask advice. I have a "real" one with the side canisters. It's a must for autopaint, but when I've been in my INCREDIBLY dusty crawl space for a long time (like when had to do some plumbing under a bathroom), the charcoal is overkill, but the tight fit keeps everything out.
