The wife of one of my buddies has breast cancer. Even with insurance the bills and other costs are crazy .

Ugh, the cancer is bad enough, having to deal with huge bills should not be part of it.

My wife recently had surgery for breast cancer and went through post-operation radiation therapy (finished last week; all seems clear, just some residual fatigue). We never saw a bill. As it should be.

Dale,I see how to become an Echelon team member and get their newsletter, but not how to just buy coffee.

Nice bike! But 21" just doesn't work. Not with any "usual" geometry. My Competition is just under 22" c-c but with an odd 74 degree seat tube and decently long head tube. A highish Pearl 13 (14 cm for the rest of the world) stem and it fits perfect. I'll let it go to someone that it fits better.

And on breast cancer - for two years before COVID closed everything down, I was going to a Sunday night blues jam at a bar. Host band was three of Portland's best; guitar/vocal Robbie Laws, Marty Henninger (sp) drums/vocal and Jim Solberg on bass. Regular customers were Dave and Tonya. Tonya loved to dance and would to all the good songs, all evening, accompanied or no. She had a quite unusual dance style but was completely "in the groove" so I never questioned it. Her man was a Harley rider my age and we often talked riding and bikes. Didn't have much contact with her but she did say a few times she loved my playing and I could see that when I was up on stage and playing well. (Harmonica in the Chicago tradition though I've never sought to be a purist.)

Tonya was the favorite of the host band and a lot of the rest of the musicians. (The blues has always been about dancing and playing for dancers is playing for a purpose.) Well, one June night it was announced that Tonya had cancer. For the next year and a half, she showed up if she could as she went through the ravages of chemo, dancing as much as she physically could. I got the honor of playing for her many times. Put a new importance in playing well. One evening I approached her to tell her about my very different journey after my bike crash. She told me she'd been though a car crash that broke every bone in her body; that she was told she'd never walk again, let alone dance. Wow! After that conversation, we always hugged.

Then it was announced she be going in for the surgery. I got to be on stage for her last song as they left early, then step down to give her a hug and feel with real sadness for her that she would never have that part of her again.

She was back in two weeks. Danced! Fell and probably tore stitches. I heard others say she shouldn't be doing this. I looked at my year of racing post head injury and knew full well how important that dancing was and that she had to.

Sadly, COVID put an end to playing for her and things wound down so fast I never got a chance to play for her one last time or get any contact information. I hope she is doing well. I hope to cross paths again. I wish both of them well. (Guessing that the partnership isn't surviving. They weren't married, this had to be a huge drain on Dave. He was a godsend to her.)
