....shoveling snow.

Dunno if any of you have been watching the news, but Chicago got hit with a pretty big New Years' storm. Started New Year's Eve and went through yesterday AM. My town apparently got the heaviest snow...18".

Went out today to pull some of the snow off the roof and minimize the icicles.....all in a balmy 10* temp with a decent wind.

Was out for about 30" or so and started feeling it coming on....went inside and crammed a sandwhich and bunch of the kids' Goldfish down my throat as fast as possible.

Ugh.......

Snow is good in the mountains.....not so much in pancake flat IL.

Maybe I'll go snowshoeing tomorrow.....haven't broken those things out in a long time.

CK, snow is good for XC too; lots of forest preserves with good nordic style tracks... providing the shoeshoers don't walk in the tracks.

extreme cold is bad -- forecast for next week is awful, monday -12 for a high, for chrissakes.

True that; we spent the days between XM and NY well.

I wish we'd gotten 18 inches in Colorado. I f'ed up my skis on rocks in Crested Butte over the last few days, even though the mountain is very nice and has some nice features.

Don't forget the wind...20mph winds w/ that -12*. Gonna be DANGEROUSLY cold. Unfortunately no XC gear....considered it a few times, but dunno. Really wanna do skate skiing but can't find any trails close enough to make it worthwhile,
