Going to be in Portland for Friday to Sunday visit. Meeting my wife in Salem, and we'll head up to Portland. This isn't going to be a cycling weekend so looking for recommendations for what area to stay, where to eat, and things to see. We've planned a trip to the Columbia River gorge so far, so suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

| Stop and hike the falls along the gorge. See Powell's book store. the Portland gardens are nice along with the hipster street with all of the walk-up resturants coffee houses al. A native will tell you the name. I don't remember from visiting my sister there a few years ago. It's the same street with guys on a corner house who ride tall bikes. Vague but it will get you started. River City bikes is also a good visit. |

Powell's bookstore.
I second the Columbia River Gorge. Just drove through there this weekend and it is a beauty. And green right now.

| it says something about a city when the book store is a major draw. if you're a beer drinker, just wander around. there's a brewery every other block. i think they have a lift that takes you up a mountain don't they? |
