As per usual whenever one of the bikes needs to go to shoppe for maintenance and I don't have a car, a second bike comes along so I have a steed for the return ride.

About half-way in the 5k ride I pass by the Justice Institute which doubles as the local Police Academy. The junior blue is out in full force outside with the nice weather, from the sound of it they are being instructed on how to subdue a suspect. So here I ride by, my grey manes flopping in the wind, riding one bike one-handed and grabbing the other by the scruff. I get some stares but no one says anything. Haha.

Next barrel down the Sapperton Hill, must have hit a slight bump cause my second steed starts bucking like mad. How do you control it? Well you lift the front wheel off the street making the rear wheel calm down. Then when things are settled and you've slowed down sufficiently you ease the front wheel back on the road. It took me a 2nd attempt to figure that one out, on first try I was still too fast and the easing wasn't quite easing so the bucking started again. Try not to panick, there's still some time till the traffic light.

This time I brought the road bike; normally I bring my mountain bike as the 2nd steed cause while two flatbars are harder to steer side by side peleton style, the MTB tends to buck less. I guess that notion was reaffirmed today

Since I had 2 bikes for about 5k, does that count as a 10k ride?

I used to do that, but I was living in Inman Square, Cambridge, MA and working at a shop a mile away, quite flat. My last year of racing, post accident, I had to bring my racing bike back from the shop riding my fixie. The racing bike was my VERY twitchy Fuji Pro. This was the year of relearning right hand skills as all were erased by my head injury. Apparently my skills were not fully up to the job yet and I accidentally steered the Fuji into my fixie. Fortunately, the only damage was to my ego (and to my knowledge, I was not witnessed.

Now I am a softie. I use a car for that. And won't apologize. This is my year of keeping the rubber down.

Wow, that is impressive. I'm not sure I would have thought of it let alone try it.

Ride On - back in NL we do this all the time. Small variant, carrying a passenger on the back of your bike is pretty common. Uncomfortable as hell for the passenger (I've done this many times) but the way Dutch bikes are built entirely possible. Now if you're buddy (or GF) has a bike defect, they ride on back and hold their own bike for a ride along while at same time trying to keep their feet out of the spinning wheel. I know it is stoopid to do this in a hilly setting but old habits have a hard time dieing.
