Does anyone know what happened to this company? They seem to have re-directed their site traffic to Amazon.com and are only selling a couple of race videos. It seems as if they are officially out of business, but no one seems to know anything. This may have been the wrong place to ask because this place has been dead for quite a while, but if any of the Velonews vets are still around and know what's up with these cats, let a brother know. Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering too. I stopped getting their e-mail specials a few months ago and notice that almost all clothing in popular sizes was out of stock. I did order a few videos on closeout right before Christmas and recieved them but noticed that there were no 2014 races. I guess the video market died with LA's retirement.

They're still selling a couple of videos on Ebay and Amazon.com, but yes-no new videos for 2014 was what got me wondering.

I read on Yelp that they were going out of business, and the post was dated September of 2014. It sucks that they didn't let their loyal customers know what was going on. After years of support you'd figure they'd at least make some sort of announcement.

well Bears fans have to get their wins vicariously. Whatever works.

I've supported the ban on WCP for many years now. Glad things have worked out.

Thanks, CK.

I know your personal feelings about WCP, but now there is nowhere for me to purchase cycling videos.

And also, growing up with Phil and Paul, I'm going to miss their commentary. I'm in the process of trying to get the videos I'm missing from my collection, so I'm looking hard on Amazon and Ebay for whatever pops up.

I know there's a site I can download cycling videos from, but it's not the same as having the actual video with the packaging and everything.

This also happened with the RVG remastered series from Blue Note. They stopped producing them and now there are no more new releases from the jazz albums that I love so much.

I know technology moves on, but this sucks.

By the way, does anyone know if Bobswire is still around? I miss some of the guys from the old Velonews forum. Sort of felt like family in a strange way.

Lord knows we won't have many actual victories to enjoy anytime soon,,,,so I'll revel in the the agony of Pack fans for now!! (yes, I am that shallow).

What's that, Reggie? The Pack did what yesterday?

I bought a lot of videos from them (everything else seemed outrageously overpriced),but I stopped several years ago when the number of doping revelations became overwhelming. I'm also a much less avid fan of professional cycling although I ride just as much as before.

I have two WCP videos still. The 1996 Tour du Pont and the 1983 Tour of Ireland. Both on VHS. The Ireland race has some shortcomings, but...Phil Sherwin is racing in this one. Yates is a rookie. Sean Kelly is, Sean Kelly on a bike. And I have to say the revelation is Stephen Roche. There is not enough video of him at work. Dude knew how to lay it down. It is a great video if anyone is interested.

Oh, and Happy New Year to you all! Been busy. Brought a house, moved my elderly parents in with me...things are...hectic right now.

Good to hear from some of you cats. Really makes me miss those old school days at Velonews.

I've had the good fortune to have run into some good videos on Amazon and Ebay lately, so my collection seems to be heading in the right direction. But going forward, it seems that there will no company to pick up the slack left by the demise of WCP.

I think the problem is that there is no sustainable business model. Streaming video continues to supplant physical media, and torrent sites bleed off a good chunk of what is already a relatively small market.

WCP likely had the opportunity to transition to a streaming / subscription service, but (IMO) they had taken their eyes off the ball and were working on trying to build the other sides of their business (catalog, etc)....which was also a dying market.

didn't they slap you with a brutal cease and desist letter CK, when you offered to share burned copies of that RAI race with us on the VN forum?

I've exhausted my collection of Tour de France and Giro DVD's. Can't bring myself to watch another minute while sitting on the trainer.

Any suggestions on where to go to download older races, like 90's Tours? Don't want to stream and the video quality on Youtube is horrendous.

cyclingtorrents.nl

Create an account and download to your hearts content. More races than you can ever possibly watch.

I don't know about cyclingtorrents.nl. Their files are usually way too large, and if you don't keep a certain download/upload ratio you get bounced off the site. That just seems stupid, as you are dependent on others downloading your material.

I don't know if this policy has changed, but that's why I'm not allowed to get any videos from their site. And if you sign in with another account, you need a different email address and have to wait 30 days until you can download anything of substance.

The good thing is they have many videos not produced by WCP. Bad thing, aside from what I mentioned above, if no one is seeding a particular race you can't download it.
