Now that my Red Sox have been eliminated, I'll be routing for the Cubs. I honestly believe this is the year for them. GO CUBS!

KNOCK ON WOOD RIGHT NOW!!!!

I'll be honest...I'm not certain this is "the year". The series against SF exposed a lot of the team's flaws, stuff that has had me worried all year...reliance on the long ball, very little small ball play, a dodgy bullpen, and perhaps most importantly, too many runners left stranded in scoring position.

Through 8 innings last night, I had resigned myself that this was definitely not "the year".....I saw no chance of them winning last night, and facing Cueto again on Thursday was certain doom. But as a Red Sox fan from my youth (the days of Jerry Rice, Fred Lynn, Butch Hobson, et al) and a Cubs fan for too many years, I have been beaten into that world view. And I was so pissed off by the first 8 innings that I couldn't even enjoy the 9th!

But I mostly don't think this is "the year" simply because I never envisioned it this way.....I always saw a team that no one expected defying the odds to suddenly lift the curse. But man, I hope I am wrong. Getting past SF was huge and having TX and the Red Sox eliminated helps, but either Washington or LA will be tough and Toronto is playing unreal ball right now.

8 games to go!

Two years in a row with Rizzo MIA in the postseason. Not good.

Expect some line-up changes today...I think they will sit Heyward and play either Soler or Contreras in the outfield. Personally, I'd like to see them play Almora, but we'll see.

They might even move Rizzo down in the line-up, but at some point he just has to show up at the plate. Same with Russell, but Rizzo is the team leader.

I like the puitching match-up tonight (Arrieta vs. Hill) but Cubs HAVE to muster some offense. No more long ball, either...string together some hits consistently over 9 innings and score runs.

You called it CK. This reminds me of the collapse of the Red Sox in 2011, which lead to the departure of Terry Francona. At least the Cubs made it post season. What a time for the bats to go silent. Still plenty of baseball to be played.

Cubs gotta win tonight....I don't think they can win the series if they don't. Kershaw goes again in Game 6.

This smells like it's going seven. Lester pitched a hell of a game last night. Why can't we get pitchers like that :-) We're going to play a drinking game on Saturday. Every time Joe Buck says Kershaw you have to take a drink. We're probably going to get hammered. Go Cubs!

Oh yeah....this is definitely going 7.

Hendricks is tough @ Wrigley (league leading ERA), so tomorrow night is no "gimme" for LA, but I definitely give them the edge.

So that leaves Arrieta vs Hill fro Sunday. Hill was filthy the other night.

Definitely been a great series.

So yesterday I wanted to get my oldest daughter (going to school at Indiana) a World Series hat (she is my Cubbies buddy).

Went to Dick's @ 8:30am....all hats were gone, as well as all of the adult t-shirts and sweatshirts.. Literally nothing left except youth sizes in the shirts. Looked like a Hoos' house after the Grinch blew through....

Whole area has gone completely nuts....

I still can't understand why Kershaw, changed his windup on Saturday night, but I'm sure glad he did. Cubs hit him early, and often. They were in his head after that first double.

I hope the Seahawks-Cardinals game isn't a Worlds Series preview. They had to call that game after 11 innings tied 6-6.

(The strangest football game I ever watched.)

Well, kind of a crap start, but as long as they DNA split the first two games, they have done what they need to do to start the series. And when you load the bases with no outs and don't score a run? Well, you just don't deserve to win the game.

Kluber was filthy tonight...

That was the Lester, I remember pitching for the Sox. And what was with that no throw to first? He was killing me last night.

I heard the pregame on the radio and the sports guy was saying Lester had a very poor throw to first and was very reluctant to do it. Also that he was a poor fielder. Apparently that 60' toss to the catcher is all that he does well and he chooses to do that and ignore all else. (He is pretty good at it.)

He doesn't have a poor throw to first base, he simply DOESN'T HAVE ONE. It is a complete mental block for him. Even when he fields a ball, he will either bounce it into first or Theo it underhand. He simply cannot throw the ball to first...

Why more teams don't exploit that, I have no idea...I'd be running all day on him. Of course, you gotta get on base, which ain't easy with Lester.

OK...they did what they needed...split the first two games. Not particularly pretty and too many runners left on base, but I'll take it.

Coming home to Wrigley with a chance to close it out (although I don't expect that at all, but a boy can dream)

Yup, a W is a W, no matter how you get it. Take two back at Wrigley, and it should be a done deal going back to Cleveland. Baez, needs to lay off of that down and outside pitch. Just a base hit kid.

That one hurt....going against a pitcher who has given up 36 hr's with the wind blowing out strong and the Cubs lineup? Gotta be a win right?

How the hell did they get blanked?

And Miller is OK to pitch tomorrow....so Kluber starts and then Miller comes in? Kinda feels like the Cubs are staring at 3-1, doesn't it?

Ye of little faith. Heading back to Cleveland, but it ain't lookin good, I must agree. The tribe's bullpen and offense, out shinning the Cubs right now. They're going to need a miracle to pull this off. Baez, is killing me with his at bats. Kid just can't lay off that low and out side stuff. If the bats can come alive we have a chance, but they REALLY need to start hitting. Not homeruns, just getting hits. As we know hits produce runs. Go Cubs!

And another thing. Soler should have had an inside the park homerun on Saturday night. Had he ran as soon as he hit the damn ball, instead of watching it (like they all do) he could have made it home. This is the World Series damn it! Run you lazy bastard!

I have no problem admitting that Cleveland is simply the better team in this series . DO I think they are the better team overall? No....but they hit the hot streak at the right moment while the Cubs came into the postseason with a (IMO) struggling offense.

I have been critical of the Cubs stranding RISP for months and it is really kicking their ass right now...and their reliance on the long ball is compounding the problem. Gotta be able to play small abll and move guys around the bases.

That said, theya re still alive. Arguably the pitching match-up tomorrow night favors them, but Tomlin was pretty damn god the other night. Can you do it again on short rest? We'll find out....

Right now it is One Batter, One Pitch, One Out at a Time. They took care of business last night....now worry about Tuesday on Tuesday. (Then hopfully horry about Wednesday on Wednesday.)

Odds are definitely stacked against them though....

Not certain I agree with letting Chapman pitch that much, but In Joe We Trust.

Game 7!!!!

(Still think this lines up really well for Cleveland. Kluber and a fresh Miller and Allen are going to be really tough to beat. That said, historically, the Cubs are undefeated in November. )

What a roller coaster.....both the series and the game. Neither team laid down at any point....it wasn't even that one team won or lost, it was that one outlasted the other.

It is only fitting that the Cubs WS streak ended with an epic struggle....no way it was gonna be easy. And LSD is spot-on....best Game 7 ever.

Here's a little giggle for you....Ross is one of my favorite players and when he hit his dinger to take some of the pressure off the Cubs, I exploded. My middle daughter was secretly waiting to tape one of my emotional outburts....

Congrats Cub fans. It's been awhile since a Chicago team won a championship, at least that I can recall... maybe the Blackhawks are the most recent? As a cheesehead, that's been fine with me. Have a few friends who are Cub fans.
