Just wanted to update you on our remodel. We're leaving the two slump block walls, and all new wood construction for the rest of the build.

This was a 1978 built home, with a flat roof and swamp cooler for cooling. Remodel is trussing the roof with vaulted ceilings. attached 2 car garage, and a detached 1 bedroom guest house (Casita)

Saw the thread title... didn't know if this was going to be a car, bike, or real estate remodel.

You are a multi-faceted man

Dale, I'm leaving this one to a builder. The design, and demo was as far as I am taking it.

Yeah.....*remodel* is an understatement. When the only thing left standing is two walls, that is a full rebuild, not a remodel!!!

Looking forward to updates and tracking the process!!

"Remodel" is an understatement. I just finished jack hammering up my 60 year old deteriorating driveway. Have a dumpster for recycling in my front yard. I told my son I was being a "destruction worker". LOL.

We upgraded from swamp coolers to refrigerated air about ten years ago. Aside from the $8k, it was an awesome decision.

N Edit: Jeebus. CK used virtually the exact same words I did about the remodel. That's funny.

Before anything gets built, we had a gathering of friends and smudged the property. An Native American ritual to clear negative energy.

Sewer lines are in. Back fill today, and prepare for concrete.

Very nice. I have my old concrete driveway out. I'm thinking of "wimping" out (LOL) and paying someone to pour the new one...

Finally got the insulation done. Drywall should start next week. Acoustics are like a recording studio. Should be very efficient.

This looks absolutely incredible. Thank you for sharing. I'm not familiar with 'slump' walls. Are they formed out of a mixture of dirt and concrete? The main house looks expansive. How many square feet? One level? Do you have any architect renderings you can share?

Keep us in the loop with updates!

Thanks CK. 6ix, slump block is a concrete block that they pull from the mold before it completely dries. They do come in colors as well. This is a single level home. the main house is 2,111 sq tf and the Casita is 616 sq ft. the basic floor plan. I'll look for a better drawing for you. Also went with a metal roof.

Suh-WEET! When I hear Trump speak too much, I fantasize about living off the grid on "the west mesa" (an area of land with no legal roads but homes, nonetheless.

Regarding the architect's drawings:What we all really want to know is where do the bicycles go.

Was curious if any solar panels were going on the roof.

No solar right now. Maybe once AZ makes it more affordable. We did go with a tankless water heater.
