This is why my handle is based on a soda that will be an eternal favourite.

But maybe I should change it to Orange Sloth cause I haven’t crushed anyone in a while.

I came up with mine in 1999 after I read a review on the bike I was riding at the time, a Klein Quantum Race. They called it a Zootracer. Maybe I should change it to Red Lantern. Not riding much these days. Have not been on my bike since Jan. Lost all my fire and brimstone.

My camera and drum/music nicknames aren't brand based, so I'm good there, lol. I'm just getting a new sled soon so I have all sorts of giddy, goofy thoughts running through my head, please excuse the middle age giggles.

Thanks Orange Crush. It's been eons since I've drank any of that stuff but suddenly find myself craving for it.

Mine isn't based on a bike but a car. Actually two of them I've had over the years. Mazda6. Always though they looked pretty sleek except for the second gen. Those were terrible, rental fleet fodder. Traded in one of them but the first one met it's untimely demise at the hands of a stupid 26 year old (me at the time.) Ran it under a semi.

Shooosh, don't mention Fuzzball, Everton FC or Amanda Rose. I'm sure there are probably 10 other notorious posters. Heck, they all might be the exact same person. And if so, I really hope they get the professional help they need because Everton and Fuzzball...yesh.

Amanda Rose aka ... aka ... I've met him. (Not really by choice, Apparently he knew who I was. Came up and introduced himself (by his first aka which I have forgotten).

I'd put up with all three just to get Jennifer back. I didn't even mind Fuzzball too much. She reminded me of a certain (male) I used to race against. Didn't care for him but he was a good racer and won a few. It sucks that someone either came on to Jennifer or threatened her. I know nothing of her beyond her posts, but those alone were a gift.

Really? I never knew that....knew you guys were both in Portland but never knew you had met IRL. Aluminum Frog, Wolfsbane, Amanda Rose and too many others I can't recall.

Dude was really certifiable.....and his obsession with me was just creepy.

AF was ranking on something I posted, and I called him on it. He contributed to one of my MS rides as an apology. I never did get his real name.
I exchanged emails with Jennifer, the wench with the wrench. She spoke of harassment from a VN forumite and a heart condition. I lost touch with her.

Jennifer had lent me some spot on mechanic advice on personal email a few times, great person. Too bad some asswipe with an immature understanding of gender and sexuality drove her away. And all those AF personalities, who could keep up? Painful. As for irl encounters, haven't had any yet....there are those that I keep in touch with, especially Dave C. ....As for local, Dale and I kept missing each other, my timing wasn't good for rides and beers, then he moved to Missouri...maybe one day when he visits again

Gee, I still have my Mondonico. It's in the shed with my litespeed and my fuji ace from the early 70's. When I do ride now, which sadly isn't very often, I ride a Cannondale. Just doesn't have the same ring. Don't think there was ever a Mr. Cannondale, so won't be changing

Started as Bamboo because he supposedly had a bamboo bike....switched to Danboo after one of the VN server changes and he lost his profile.

Another asshat.

Funny how accurate O&F turned out to be about almost everything....wonder if it really was Jeff Evanshine after all.

Yes, Danboo was the beautiful photo guy with a lot of rants. I don't know any of the other characters, those must predate my presence. You guys have memories like/hold grudges like elephants.

Forget why exactly I joined this place but it was probably somewhere between Dave's adventure in Spain and politics (probably around election time). It certainly wasn't for all the bike mechanic geek stuff.

OC, Old and Fat deserves some explanation. He (I'll assume this person was a he) presented himself as an insider in pro racing, probably a racer himself, with an extra large amount of double secret knowledge about doping details and other even more rotten stuff going on. He scolded us, over and over and over, for our blindness and our not knowing what he claimed to know. But when we pressed: OK, tells us already, let's hear this bad news!, he would dissemble and deflect. I don't recall him sharing a single specific that wasn't already in the public record. That act got old really fast and made him a Cassandra - a true profit (maybe, who knows what he really knew since he never shared it) with no credibility. Too bad, because spilling the beans would have been good for cycling in the long run. The sport now is a laughing stock to Joe Sixpack in the US, just a bunch of skinny dopers.

As for the super knowledgable Jennifer, I had wondered if she was more than one person - amazing amount of information, and always shared gracefully and generously.

It was more that a couple of these characters were such trolls, and engaged in such childish behavior, that they stick with you. Goatroper had a monumental breakdown on the forum, Frog was a self-admitted troll who stated multiple times that he was just there to p*ss people off (and assumed multiple identities over time) and Danboo was just a flat-out whack-job.

Danboo was unhinged for sure, he’d go off on tangential rants like a mad man.

After Jennifer left she messaged me to edit some stuff she was writing. We had a couple of nice email exchanges and *poof* she was gone. Headed to Canada iirr.

The many variations of Mandy/ Fons de Wolf/ whatever. I ran into one of his rants in a letter to the editor of some newspaper editorial. He was using one of his many screen names and the style further identified him. He was just as big of a pot stirrer in the paper as he was on the forum.

I used the screen name watermoccasin on a couple of forums but followed Ben’s lead and just used my real name after the forum did a reboot.

There used to be two forums, Tech Talk and everything else. After the TdF the regulars there seemed to drift over to our TT party and prattle on about stuff we tired off years before. It was always a dreadful couple of weeks.

BZ, I’lll be back in SLC to visit my daughter a couple times this year if the C-19 lays low. We’ll catch up in real life then.

CK - Goatroaper not only had a monumental breakdown on the forum - he faked his own death! Do you remember the post from his "wife" announcing his demise? That guy was a special kind of crazy.

I was a tad suspicious of Goatroper. In one post he described seeing an old woman dressed in black, riding a bike downhill, but widows no longer dressed that way even then. Then I asked him where he lived and perhaps suggested meeting up. Knowing that I was in Italy too, he became vague and made up excuses.

I sure do remember that death announcement!

Bobswire and MerlinAK were members I liked. Merlin (Eric) and I actually met up at the foot of Monte Grappa. Super nice guy. I even wrote a little account of it, https://bicivenetojournal.com/2012/09/10/a-meeting-on-monte-grappa/

Elanoregon (or something like that) was interesting too.
I sent a note to the new Velonews as they re-established their online presence to find out if they could restore the original forum, but they couldn't. A loss.

You guys remember the real death and his widow coming on to tell us? He lived on the Olympic Penninsula. Said often the the bike gave him a new life after his heart attack. Wife said the same thing, said he died in the driveway coming home from a ride, doing what he loved. Thanked us.

Bobswire was a class act. I disagreed with Old & Fat but sometimes wondered if he really knew something.

Watermoccasin, I'd forgotten. Like the beard you shaved off 15 years ago. I'm outto confuse people but I 'm doing it slowly. Shaved the one I had 20 years this week so masks fit better but so far only my housemate has (not) seen it.
