OK so I am inclined to believe there is truth in what he says -- at least the business about if you want to be in the top 10 of the Giro you have to be doping.  I think we all assume that this was historically true during DiLuca's hey day.  Not so sure if its still true.   Boy doesnt mince words.   He really has no remorse

Seems to me the 'modern' Giro has always been a bit more over the top, as second banana to the tour, seeking attention, so that the parcours almost 'required' something 'extra'.

But it really didn't, in an of itself: someone 'started' and then others followed, trying to 'level' the playing field, of course....without remorse.

If you believe you have to dope to keep up or win I would guess you only believe that is the path successful riders take. He is trying to justify his cheating by saying he had to.

I believe DiLuca is right about the doping during his early and mid years in the peleton, but not about recent years. I want to believe that few are now and that the drugs/routines they are using now a lot less effective than the EPO/CERA of the heyday years. I am inclined to believe he is right about having to dope to win the tours back then. In fact, for all but a small few, I believe they had to dope just to accumulate enough wins/placings/attention at the lower levels to even get on a top team, whereupon they had to dope to stay (see US Postal).

Someone should tell DiLuca times have changed. (I hope he isn't right about the current state.)

Agree with Ben. What was the quote from a former team owner> basso was a cycling engine on dope. Diluca was a rider on dope.

Haha, apparently diLuca also claims there IS e-motors being used in some bikes, producing ~150 Watts.
