Remember Inga, I remember hearing her name but that’s it. Interesting article, but it doesn’t quite tell the whole story somehow. Can’t figure out why she is speaking out now after not being around the sport for 20 odd years.

I'm glad that she's willing to speak out.

I feel so naive about all that happened. It is all so unfair to the honest.

Still common in sports. My wife had similar experiences with the Canadian alpine ski team. She questioned the coaches all the time and she's way smarter than any of those coaches. No doping but the control thing for sure. And some athletes are too competitive. They will get injured and go find a doctor that will tell them what they want to hear. I know people that are trainers, physics, ski techs that tell us stories. Some of the $4it that goes on is unbelievable. Athlete in the start gate at a World Cup. Oh are those your training skis? Good luck. Just because she wouldn't sleep with the dick. Athletes that ski hard and re injure their knee. Went to several docs until they heard that they could ski.

That was the cold war. What kind of patriot is she if she wouldn't even dope for her country? Even the Russians in Breaking Away were doing transfusions.

Nice piece - My only criticism is why did she wait so long? Why didn't she make her voice heard at the time when she was fed up and decided to walk away from the sport? She wants to be remembered as a crusader NOW, little too late Inga and leave your son out of it. Landis got the ball rolling didn't he? But he did it because he couldn't get a job not because it was an honorable Amish thing to do, and to revenge LA for which I am glad.

Pin0Q0. it's not too late. The (ex) dopers and their compatriots are threaded deeply throughout all racing organizations now. Speaking up 5 years ago would have been like yelling into a hurricane. Now, cycling has "reformed", but has it really?

Who holds the highest position in cycling in this country? Steve Johnson. To his credit, all the doping throughout the LA/Postal years happened with any knowledge at his end. And if you believe that, I've got a nice bridge you should buy. And the organization that is proud to have voted him into another term? Would you want your son racing under such people?

I think her timing is right on. I am a lot less sure we are ready now to listen. ("We" being US and world cycling collectively,k not just this forum.)

As soon as I posted this, I read the Velonews headline about UCI and Antidoping Switzerland teaming up and realized that things are changing; that was do have a good man at the top (of world cycling, but not US cycling). Now, Cookson has the unenviable task of having to change everything and that isn't even remotely possible. European women speaking up like Inga will help remind all why this is needed. (Maybe a few mom's who lost their sons in their sleep 20 years ago?)

He who shall not be named will take some heart from that interview too I got limited value out of the Inga interview; but there's a bunch of good perspectives on that site in general; for example the Theo de Rooij interview; Tygart interview; Verbruggen...couple must reads there. http://www.theouterline.com/

She waited because she was fed up and no-one would have listened or believed her.  Do you think anything would have been different if she had said something, or would she have just gotten more abuse?  I think she was smart, not afraid.  Mentioning her son is perfectly reasonable.  She is worried for him, as any mom would be.

In this age of the internet and social media, it is easy to speak up and be heard.

In her time, speaking up would have meant waiting a month or more to read about it in some limited readership cycling rag......no impact and certainly no change.

No outrage on forums = no change :-)

Theo de Rooij makes exactly that point in his outer ring interview. Who were riders going to complain to?

I posted this on the other thread and I have a question. Wasn't this the same time frame of the Lemond years. Not trying to start something but am curious. At my age the only memory I have left is what I had for lunch and that was 1 hour ago.
