Shouldn't all the participants pay. And what about the Weasel why isn't he a part of it. It was his organization that defrauded us poor tax payers. Doesn't seem fair.============http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/06/news/armstrong-i-risk-ruin-in-landis-lawsuit_373424

Sorry, it was Stapleton and Knaggs that had tried to settle, but it appears that the government rejected the settlement.

to make an example of him. Regardless of any fraud USPS got a very good return on their investment and never suffered any damage to their reputation. At least not that I have read.
It is more obvious what Floyd is in it for. he has some pretty big bills to pay too.

I am at the point where I really think they have tormented Lance enough. That said I dont think his lawyers and their strategy have been wise. It has long been time to cut his losses and move on. There was obvious complicity with a whole bunch of people and they all should be on the hook. USPS did benefit from the relationship and wasnt "defrauded" out of anything. SCA however was screwed and they were repaid. FLoyd too is a dick and imo shouldnt benefit from any of this. Just my 2 cents

Agree Strong, I think the punishment fits the crime as is.

stronz and Inferno, I don't agree. I find it quite fitting and right that a**hole #1 may be coming to his demise because he tried to screw another. #1 had his success screwing many people. Loss of his earnings and bankruptcy is too harsh? Many have served prison for far less.

I too am with Ben.

It's disgusting the way he treated those that threatened his drive to gain and maintain #1.

I don't really care that he doped. It's the actions he took to protect that lie that call for the punishment he now faces.

I would tend to agree with the last two posters and add that if LA's been smart (which he hasn't seemed to be so far) then he'd have plenty assets hidden so he'd be able to continue to live well. The article linked in OP seems to want to create of pity from the public which I do not buy into whatsoever. But the fact that Landis would be seen as a whistleblower and would profit nicely from it is ahem, well, arggh, very ironic.

Other bit of context I'd put this in his how a number of major banks found guilty of criminal manipulation of market should have been facing jail time but got off with a minor financial slap on wrist. A lot of people suffered from this but where's the punishment? There's no rhyme or reason to the "justice" system.

This.

As in Richard Nixon, it wasn't the crime (doping) it was the coverup (bullying, intimidation) that caused his downfall. Glad to see LA remain a pariah.

I'm torn on this one, Lance deserve to loose but Landis in no way deserves to gain anything from this.

Agreed, Ride on. No one involved in any of it should profit.

I agree, neither deserve to profit. At this point I am ready for it to all just go away.

What will Floyd do with his multimillion dollar payout?
I know! Buy a personal ego pro tour team, a la Oleg. He and Oleg can sit in the special oligarchs only section. As a way to stick it to pro cycling.
