I'd be in favor of any race that offers a cash price has mandatory dope control.

Doping masters... can you get more pathetic?

Can you get more pathetic?

Yeah, you can - the guys who just ride, don't compete, and dope...

No, no mandatory dope controls...surprise spot checks at races.

Guys racing Masters have no incentive to cycle properly since no one ever tests. They don't worry about being "hot" because they never have to pee in a cup (except for Nats).

Show up at the local office park crit unannounced...SURPRISE! Top 5 and 10 random samples will be taken at every race. Watch how many guys suddenly don't feel well and bag the race.....count the Audi's and Beemers leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

I "know" this happens, but it's just so depressing, to spite my rational mind, I don't want to believe it.

Am I jaded or has my thinking just evolved to the point where if you are that old and still racing, are not a pro, and you want to dope, why should anyone try to stop you?

Juniors and espoirs on the other hand is where the testing should be focused.

I don't race, or even ride with other people, but I can imagine considering doping just so I could breathe going over the hills on my way to work. I run out of breath before strength or energy. I won't because I am cheap and hate drugs in general (alcohol and mushrooms excepted).
I can't imagine doping if I was racing, or even doing organized rides.

What Chinook said - that's where you can actually make a difference.

The old farts are a waste of time and a lost cause.

I'm not sure wide scale doping in master's is common, however, if you did test our local crowd many might fail depending on what you tested for. I doubt you are going to see EPO, but many over the counter "banned" substances are used regularly.
Once prior to a race I was talking to rider who was taking an inhaler. I asked him if he had asthma. He said no. I asked him if what was in there was "legal". He grinned and said "probably not".

Inhalers are legal now, no TUE required. It has also been shown that they have no effect on non-asthmatics. But the fact that the guy was using it as he was certainly indicates his mindset, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was doing other stuff.

And while there may not be a lot of EPO use (but probably more than you think), you can bet your bottom dollar that testosterone use is pretty widespread in Masters racing. Just walk into any male Anti-Aging clinic and they will give you a scrip w/o blinking.
