Granted, I haven't competed regularly in decades, but I did enter a road race as recently as less than 10 years ago. I figured I might never do it again. This doesn't help. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cycling/2019/01/05/track-cyclistcarl-grove-aged-90-fails-doping-test-atus-masters/amp/ On my phone. Sorry, no live link. Cut and paste. 90 year old popped for doping.

Doping to win your Age Group in which you are the only competitor...a new level of dumb.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

https://www.velonews.com/2019/01/news/90-year-old-us-cyclist-fails-doping-test-loses-crown_482673

They traced it to the meat he ate the night before. He had been tested the day before and was clean so the Berto defense won over.

Now if we can get the FDA to monitor food as well as USADA does cycling ...

From Cycling News--

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/90-year-old-pursuit-world-champion-given-public-warning-for-anti-doping-violation/

"Grove provided USADA with information about supplements he had used, none of which listed clomiphene or any other prohibited substances on the Supplement Facts label. Detailed analysis subsequently conducted by the WADA-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah, confirmed the presence of clomiphene in one of the supplements."

Looks as if it wasn't meat but supplements containing, but not disclosing the presence of clomiphene.

Just one more reasons that I loath that evil old fiend from Utah, Orin Hatch.

For those who don't know, he's the sole reason the FDA has essentially zero oversight of the supplement industry.

A lot of money wasted on anti doping enforcement of an old timer.

Other than that I have no beef with the outcome.

This story made it to USA Today, but missing some important nuance, equated this guy with Alberto.

Meh. Why should I let facts get in the way of a good internet opinion?

Slow burn here at this whole situation. Zero tolerance is zero IQ. Does any mentally competent and medically trained person believe in any way shape or form that the old dude’s tainted steak helped his performance? A: not possible. These drugs, taken in therapeutic let alone micro doses take time to work. It made no difference. None. Nil. Nada. Zero. And there was no intent to cheat.
What’s next? No viagra for masters class? JHFC can anyone inject a bit of sanity?

I dunno. When they card 60 year olds for beer at the grocery store, I think it's pretty much hopeless.

Just in: https://www.velonews.com/2019/01/news/usada-ceo-90-year-olds-world-record-triggered-doping-test_482720

Travis Tygart said that Grove set a world record which triggers an automatic test. Under WADA, USADA had no choice. And when picograms showed up, they had no choice but to disqualify him. Tygart think, like you, lsd, that traces ingested as food should not count, but all he could do was administer the mildest penalty. (This is something like the fourth record Grove had set.)
