If he did any doping, it was most likely anabolic steroids. They were not exactly sophisticated back then.

The problem with this chart is there are riders from the pre EPO era that are being judged among the EPO Era riders. With Laurent Fingion who did test positive for drugs once or twice might have been doped but the doping he was doing would not make you a great climber. Hinault too might have suspect numbers but not EPO numbers either. Lemond might be the last pre EPO winner. Who is the first post EPO winner? Mr. Wiggo?
