Me too. Lovely expression and sentiments on the joy of riding while super fit.
Why the negative thread title?

lest we forget...the faux slap on the wrist with the wet parking ticket. He has some other questions to answer before he can wax nostalgic about sensations and being tranquilo ...and receive a journalistic hand job from BQ. Hincapie is in the same boat

Actually jrt1045, I think you need to stop with the doping witch hunt. Let it go. The sport is what it is.

Look at American football. The tight end for the NY Jets just got suspended for failing a PED test. You hear anything about it? Are the football fans clamoring for a "clean sport" as a result? Are Jets fans ranting about how they are no longer going to watch the Jets because of it? The answer to all of these questions is a big, fat NO.

So let's be honest, this is about you and your "clean sport" crusade. This has very little to do with Mike Barry.

Keith, I have to respectfully disagree with you on this

If I am a harda$$ because I am against dudes that cheat in order to be pack fodder in the Pro field, call me guilty. The guy's career was a waste of jet fuel and the positive electrons that he so actively elicited throughout his career. His demise in the Sport (and life) began the moment that he decided to shoot himself full of schiite and then attempt to rationalize it to others. Just read the DZ affidavit. Bet there's a bunch of work-a-day domestic guys that were his peers that would not be so forgiving or cavalier about the topic. I don't feel that it is OK to lie, cheat and steal your way thru life. Ethics is big with me and I have always expected this from others, if no one is watching you should still do the right thing. I don't feel that this standard is uncommon, its certainly not a crusade

The big difference in the example that you gave - at least the aforementioned member of the Jets is serving a suspension doled out by the sanctioning body of his MMA-like sport and didn't skulk out the back door into retirement before the consequences came his way. I also haven't seen anyone write a puff piece about how he likes the cozy environs of the weight room and ignores the elephant in the room that is his PED use

Have great weekend!

I certainly admire those striving for clean sport. I also think they're on a fool's errand. Reality proves them wrong time and time again. Yet they keep plowing away on a difficult path to a destination that by now they must know doesn't exist. It's kinda like believing we go to heaven if we're good. That's admirable, yet at the same time I am not about to join their church.

There are dopers that are generally likeable guys and then there's clean guys that can equally likely be dicks or whiners. Life's not black and white as the church might have you believe. In fact, its pretty colourful, better enjoy it despite its shortcomings.

I agree sport will always have cheaters but I don't think that makes people who push to get rid of the cheaters naive people on a fool's errand.

Michael Barry's article carries some weight because of his past. I am pretty sure I could not get an article on Competitive Cyclist even if I wrote one similar to Barry's. I do not think we should reward cheaters by giving them a spot to voice their views. I am pretty sure there are lots of clean racers that could use the exposure provided by an article in Competitive Cyclist.
