Even a tiny drop of EPO can boost the size of a tumor cell culture by "1,800 times in just five days when normally, without EPO, it would double in size at most over the same period."
Sounds like a yes to me. |

| Ironic when I think of the fans that shouted me down years ago when I suggested Lancy doped. They said as a cancer survivor, because of the chemotherapy there is no way he would dope. |

"A tumor cell" is a gross simplification. "Cancer" covers a very diverse group of diseases. Did it boost the growth of the exact cell line Lance had?
If EPO is such a potent potentiator of malignancies, why aren't pro cyclists and other athletes dropping like flies?
It's far, far, far more likely that his cancer experience was just bad luck and stupidity (ignoring obvious warning signs). |

I've heard it said that the testosterone and other steroids he took were very likely to, if not cause, certainly exacerbate his testicular cancer. But, if what Keith quotes applies to LA's cancer, that would explain his grapefruit sized nut.

Thoughts on cancer: There are cancers that thrive in oxygen deprived areas. I knew of someone with a blood deficiency with symptoms close to sickle cell. She had cancers popping up all over her body. So for those cancers, I suspect EPO is very beneficial for the patient. (I suspect smoking cigarettes can mean inhaling carbon monoxide from incomplete burns. CO is known to monopolize hemoglobin, robbing the body of working blood cells while leaving the useless ones in circulation. Again, I suspect that is a primary mechanism for more cancers of many types in those that smoke.)
And yes, I have big, big problems with smokers. I have lost three mentors, all of whom smoked before I knew them, to cancers. (Music, my profession and spiritual.)

| This "he did to himself (and he deserved it)" narrative comes up pretty often, either as a purportedly medically understandable phenomenon (requiring some pretty wild speculations) or as karma. |

Yep they are called sheep. Nothing has changed read the comments on any mainstream Lance story. All the excuses are there,...everyone doped level playing field ect. It astounds me people think doping levels the palying field, effects everyone the same ...ect. Let them wallow in their confusion. |

| 79 EPO is a rescue drug used to deal with the side effects of chemo it doesn't fight cancer. EPO is used as a rescue drug in many treatments not just cancer. It allows people to stay on chemo by increasing the RBC off setting all the RBCs that are being killed by the chemo. or interferon or ?. It isn't a treatment for cancer. |
