The new double secret probation Shunning Rules may have been transgressed by TJ van G. He's in for it now, by golly. Get out your pitchforks and torches!

What was TJ's foul transgression, you ask? Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart:

TJ rode his bicycle behind Lance's Vespa with - wait for it - Lance piloting said Vespa.

The Horror! TJ meekly claims that it was convenient as they are basically neighbors.  Just doing some motorpacing with someone with some experience so it would be safe. Oh sure.

Clucking has begun in earnest:

From Cyclingnews:
"It's not clear if Armstrong's participation in van Garderen's training would be a violation of the 2015 WADA Code's new rules, which take effect January 1, prohibiting association with sanctioned or convicted coaches, trainers, physicians or other athlete support personnel. The US Anti-doping Agency did not immediately respond to Cyclingnews' requests for comment on whether motorpacing would fall under the new code's prohibition against "obtaining training."

Good grief this is silly.

Didn't this happen months ago? I can't see much motor pacing going in in Aspen right now.

Yes, the events in question are not new and I should have mentioned that. What is current (if I read correctly) is that TJ is still getting these pesky questions now as the racing season begins and the press works hard to generate those column inches and headlines.

This is where your pops in law can say God Bless the Press.

It never ceases to amaze me how firmly the UCI, WADA and USADA have their eyes locked on the rearview mirror.

Regardless of your or my opinion of the UCI, WADA or USADA, TJ didn't exhibit much common sense with that action.

I dunno....perhaps from a PR perspective (*GASP* He was with WHO?!?!?). I get that for some, the optics aren't necessarily that great, but the idea that theya re actually investigating this as a potential violation of LA's sanctions? Pfffft.

"prohibiting association with sanctioned or convicted coaches, trainers, physicians or other athlete support personnel."

But wait, was LA a convicted or sanctioned coach, trainer, physician or athlete support person? If memory serves he was a convicted or sanctioned d-bag racer. If the language used in the article is correct, I think TJ is okay from a sanctioning perspective. As usual, I could be wrong!

What about the unsuspecting, slow moving vehicles on low speed limit roads on downhill sections, that I've occasionally motor paced behind? I bet they weren't all sunshine and roses.
