Remember when Pat's brother used to post here (or was it on the old site... can't remember)? He was on a tear over getting ripped off by some bike shop, IIRR. After is came to light who he was he was asked about his brother.

He was pretty adamant that Patty was a pure as the driven snow. What he failed to mention was the snow was downwind of Chernobyl.

16 riders all convicted of doping offences? Pretty poor showing and how do 16 caught riders demonstrate the real trends? 20 to 90 percent of riders still cheating? more really valuable information and again based on the cynicism of the rider they asked? hardly a finding. more like a guess.
It does show we are not rid of the problem and it shows we have made some progress but unfortunately it does little to bring new information. Just seems to confirm the babble in the clinic forums without adding much actual information. I am disappointed the report really brings nothing new. I would have wished for immunity for new information but that never came. Like one person said. this could just drive the cheating back up if riders take the %90 number as representative of the truth. %20 might help to show it is possible to be a pro and avoid doping.

You'll never get rid of the problem....best you can hope for is to contain it.

Perfect example - it is now rumored that doping is becoming very prevalent in the Junior and U23 categories. Reason? So they can manipulate the Biopassport. If they come into the system with conflated values, that becomes their "norm".

But then when they are taking a break from the program, they'll have to explain why their values suddenly dropped. Red flags are thrown for deviation from the "baseline"......doesn't matter which side of the baseline.

Ya right, 20-90%..... Umm that's a mighty big range. Useless piece of "information". Sigh...the joy of cycling for us cannot be mared by the follies of the pros.

20 to 90% of all respondents also admit their sympathies for Lance - depending on who is asking...

Almost ready to say "uncle" and throw my hands up . . .

Because my favorite response, "let them dope, but under medical supervision" fails when considering the issues that creates for the kids coming up.

20 or 90? 20 or 90? 20 or 90? Seriously? Even if it is 20 -- thats kinda high no? What iif its the top 20% of the finishers in any given race? Thaat would be the top 30 or so finishers on GC at the tour. Jeez we seem to have made no progress

Somewhere there is the 80/20 rule. It goes like this. %80 of your troubles are caused by %20 of the people. It even goes like this %80 of your work comes from %20 of your customers. So the %20 number might fit statistically if we have actually turned the corner which I think we have. I hope we have gone to the inverse of the doping days when it was probably %80 of pros were doping with the largest number at the highest levels.

Nick,

That homepage photo for me has morphed into a picture of Keith Olberman down on his luck after a multi-day bender. Kinda like Dan Akroyd in Trading Places.

You can't compare the 20 and 90 percent numbers at face value, its meaningless. What you need to do is forensic analysis of respective backgrounds and experiences of pros that made those statements; teams they were on. As it stands the CIRC report is a meaningless list of factoids. This about sums it up...

One striking detail to come out of the CIRC study was just how few of today’s current professional riders decided to cooperate with the panel’s investigation. Of the 174 people contacted by the panel, there were just over two dozen riders in that pool. And less than a dozen of those are current pros.

So why did today’s pros stay away from the CIRC commission? Was there some sort of omerta in play? No, one pro said, “no one ever contacted me” to participate, while another said, “[the study] seemed to be about the past,” before laughing and riding away, “it was just all political bull$4it, anyway.”
