LeMond had an interesting take on the idea of testing for mechanical doping. IE -- use a laser heat gun to detect any heat-generating devices in the tubes. Seems simple and probably very effective.

The only problem with Lemond's idea is where it came from. The idea will have to lie idle until all have forgotten it was Lemond that came up with the idea. Only then will the time will be right for someone at UCI/WADA/wherever to have a brilliant idea that will put a complete end to motors. Any motor that works has to put out heat. Use a sensor that reads heat to detect it. Brilliant! Promotion for that genius. Serious back patting for his employer.

But sadly, this innovation is at least 10 years away. Kinda like the reality re: doping that a certain misfit with initials GC was talking about in the late '90s.
