Yeah, it is *only* for asthma meds, but you gotta take a crapload of salbutamol to test “hot” for if. And given SKY’s proven-history of edging right up to the line of doping (i’m Looking at you, Wiggo), the looks really bad.

Hope he gets what he deserves...

Is anyone surprised by this? To me, it was never a question of if, but when.

OC, do you have a link to it?

Ck, isn't this a bigger offense than AC's minute Clemerbuterol (sp) finding? That was a two year suspension for a drug that could have been taken completely unintentionally whereas there was nothing unintentional about Sky/Froome/s actions and intent.

Funny, now we have a French UCI president. France, the first country in the pro cycling world to take performance enhancing drug use with laws and enforce them. (And in doing so, becoming a bit of a scourge for UCI! See Festina '98, Armstrong.)

I'll be watching to see this unfold.

I'll save you the trouble, it read: "Froome struggles on Los Machucos" (cloudy/wet day). Then Stage 18 adverse finding.

This is good commentary:

First website I visited this morning was CyclingNews. Was disappointed to see this. Not because I'm a Sky fan but that Froome seems like a genuinely good guy. Figure it's time to sit back, grab some popcorn and watch the fallout from this one. To be THAT far above threshold, he had to be complicit and can't blame his doctor.
I am very happy, however, to see that jerk Brailsford get raked over the coals again. There are a lot of upstanding riders and support staff on Team Sky and would hate to see any of them lose their jobs over the actions of one rider, but maybe it's that kind of punishment that will further dissuade star riders from doing this crap.

It is actually the way the system is supposed to work...rider comes up hot on his A sample, asks for B sample to get tested, which takes time. B sample comes up hot and then information is released.

Hmm. Lotto-NK fires a rider for a rules violation in training camp with no races anywhere near. Sky does absolutely nothing except stay mum re: a positive in the world's third biggest race on a deciding stage.

Refresh my memory here. It is/was Lotto-NL that came onboard as a "clean" team making a big deal of it about 6 years ago, was it not?

Lotto-NL rose form the ashes of the Rabobank team.....they were first known as Team Blanco asthey raced with Rabo money after they pulled out of the contract early....and yes, they positioned the new team as a "clean" team. They then became Belkin before Lott-NL.

As to why they apparently continue to adhere to their "clean team" representation i contrast to SKY and their continued pushing of legal / ethical boundaries...

So Sky, with their huge budget, is claiming they can't even keep the points of their prime rider's kidneys properly gapped?

On a serious note: I got to experience chemicals housed in my liver for decades coursing through my bloodstream. Not fun. (But is was not an accident. I went on a liver cleansing regime to purge it of those chemicals; precursors of polyester resin carried through my skin by acetone and other boatbuilding goodies that had been causing me weird 'allergies" for 30 years. I was warned before i started that I might well see chemo-like effects.)

Does anyone see a similarity to a Tour winning day by a certain Floyd Landis a few years ago? A very bad day followed by a Tour/Vuelta winning good day. Kinda makes you think "hmmmm ...". (Though in a way, I feel the opponents of Landis got what they deserved. It did not take rocket science to see that Piero's team, CSC and T-Mobile needed to do a team time trial for the 20 miles of flat before the final climb. I was sitting at a cafe big screen telling my tablemate just that as Landis was pulling away on the two long hills before those flats; that each of those three DS's needed to be radioing their teams and telling them just that. And practically yelling at those three DS's when their riders would go hard, take minutes out of Landis' lead, then sit up and everyone would slow again. Yes Piero's team was weak but the other two had no excuse.)

I just remembered the Tyler Hamilton vanishing twin. The misfiring kidneys?

No way this is settled before July, IMO...at high point I will have zero interest in watching the Tour.

I'd like to see the Tour decline to allow him to start. Just say that it would be bad for their image. Normally UCI would go into an uproar, led by the president, but that happening looks much less likely than a year ago with Cookson. (Sky screwed up big time. You don't pull this stunt when your favorite son is about to step out of the office.)

Once Froome tries to show up for his first race things will get mighty interesting.

Lappartient has pressured sky to gave him sit out. He has also said that Giro and Tour are in their right to refuse him. Which they likely will based on public commentary. Many of the riders don't want to see him.

For now he remains holed up. When is his first race supposed to be?

They've done it before....Defending champ Contador (and Astana) were not allowed to start in 2008 due to Astana's history.

Hab, I agree. The Tour is too often B O R I N G. Not because of doping, but because of robot riders remote controlled by DS's watching it all live.

No radios! Smaller teams!
Power meters and HRMs while racing? not crazy about those either but that's minor.

Some things are bad because just because they are bad.
Some things are bad but they don't have to be, which IMHO is far worse. Like the Tour as it's run now.

I had a thought, triggered by CN comment to today's opinion on what Froome should do:

A scenario that would explain 1) what we saw and 2) CF's profession of innocence. This is pasted from my comment there.

"I hadn't heard or thought of this, but supppose - Froome needs a super day after his struggles the day before. The precedence is set for CF perhaps needing the full legal limit of salbutamol. So, in the team car they scheme. "Lets break up a pill and put it in one of his waterbottles. He'll be peeing his test before this gets that far. If he's a touch over, well he has a legitimate excuse. So they doctor a waterbottle one of his teammates brings up to him. He drinks it not knowing and puts in one h*** of a ride (he did). With all the media attenntion, etc, getting to the drug controls takes longer. He's also really deydrated, maybe so much so that he would have been unable to put in that performance without help. He pees and ... oops!

This is all speculation - except it matches the outcome rather well. And it doesln't look that far off from the Sky policy of 'marginal gains'.

Because he did not test “positive” for an illegal substance...he had an “adverse analytical” finding for a legal substance. According to the rules, he is allowed to race while he contests the results. Complete BS, IMO....but dems be the rules.

Vaughters' take on Sky and MPCC

http://www.velonews.com/2018/03/news/vaughters-gaming-tue-system-not-commonplace-among-mpcc-teams_458833

I have never been a fan of Vaughters but I have to agree with him here. And I wonder if Sky had been a MPCC member how many fewer Grand Tours it would have won. (I suspect Brailsford had that thought front and center when he elected to bill Sky as clean as snow while eschewing MPCC)
