has to pay $5M to the Feds and $1.67M to Flandis. I reckon the Feds spent well over that in the prosecution of this case.

I read that Floyd's lawyer gets paid off in addition (the lawyers always get paid, bloodsuckers).
But how much does Floyd get?

Probably cost LA and friends roughly the same.

Best part is, he get's to see his money go to Landis. He can claim this settlement is a win. but that's going to stick in his craw a long time.

I was in Austin a couple of weeks ago - fantastic city - and stuck my head in Mellow Johnnie's, LA's bike shop. Just off the "Lance Armstrong bike path" in the heart of the city. Basic big bike shop plus a coffee shop. And 7 framed yellow jerseys up high (out of reach of graffiti), and some cool retro racing bikes.

I thought about asking the staff if they sell LeMond bikes but held my tongue.

Ben, not sure I agree. He basically keeps his fortune and the wolf is no longer at the door. He has more money than all of us put together x 10 (not counting goatroper), keeps his hill country ranch, etc. His reputation is actutally enhanced by putting this behind him. Watch for cameos in the future.

Thank you cyclingnews.com Fllandis gets 1.65m.
Everybody has a price.
If I cheated to win the Tour and was disqualified in discrace, rejected by my family for hubris, and found a niche in the Colorado weed industry, that sum might ease my pain quite a bit.

But I'm not Floyd.
I hope he finds peace.
What about Greg, Frankie and his wife?

Uhhhh...I put that amount in the OP!!! But some of that (most?) goes to Flandis’ lawyers.

Definitely a win for 7....while I am surmit hurts, he isn’t crippled and his rehab efforts are beginning to get traction. He’ll be just fine.

Ok, the $1.65 M is just for Flandis’ legal fees. But hens still get a piece of the $5M.

As the originator of the whistleblower lawsuit, Landis stands to be awarded up to a quarter of the settlement. Armstrong’s lawyer, Elliot Peters, told The New York Times that Armstrong will cover Landis’s legal costs, which tallied $1.65 million.

Who was Goatroper? And Fuzzball? And Ambling Rose? I never knew.

And LongSlowDistance, I went to Mellow Johnny's last summer too. Did you go downstairs to see the full museum of bikes? Was really neat to see the very same bikes that he rode in the Tours. Must have been a slow day because I was all alone down there, but I'm sure there were plenty of cameras on me!! Got to see the 5900 frame that Iban Mayo ran over in the 2003 Tour while interviewing at Trek a few years back. Part of history.

Missed the museum. My wife had little interest in a bicycle shop so I did not explore. You’ve given me an excuse to go back to Austin, which I would welcome. Fantastic city. We saw Jerry Jeff Walker give his annual birthday show at the Paramount - just lucked into being there. Bluebonnets were blooming.
Goat roper was a fake forumite from the Velonews tech talk forum days who had us all envying his gentleman cyclist lifestyle in Tuscany, followed by his long tragic illness and eventual demise to cancer, maybe it was melanoma. The final post was after his fake death by his “wife”. Very moving. Eventually the whole thing was outed as a fraud. But it was a really good fraud.

Ambling Rose was one of the multitude of screen names for Aluminum Frog....I can't ven begin to recount how many that whack job used over the years.

Something that never occurred to me....could he have been Goatroper, too? Maybe that was his first incarnation on the board?

It's been a while.
I dropped off the board after some comments on the NYC bike path massacre.
With respect to Aluminum Frog, I don't think its alter nom de plume was Ambling Rose; I recall Amanda Rose, but its main identity was as Wolfbane. To its credit, after I called it out for a nasty comment on MS rides, it did contribute to one of my rides.
If you want to reminisce, check out Jennifer, the wench with a wrench.
I asked the new owners of VeloNews if they could restore the old forum and recover the posts, but it does not seem likely. Maybe if others express an interest it could happen [hint!].
No more salt on the roads, so I am finally riding again outside instead of on the trainer. I made it through watching Godfather 3, but just barely.

Who or what was Everton FC? That guy went off this rocker more than a few times. Can't believe I started reading the Velonews forum all the way back in 2002 or 2003.

Of all the various handles listed above (Aluminum Frog, Ambling Rose, Jennifer, etc.), were any of them well-known in the industry? For instance, was Betsy Andreau on there? Wouldn't be surprised.

Don't remember the Goatroper fiasco for some reason. That's a whole new level of psychologically messed up.

The internet and I dare say the world was better off back then when not everyone was commenting on every news article. Some people should be heard and listened to. Others are basically screaming inside a padded cell, yet we have to hear them too.

The Goatroaper fiasco was around '99 or 2000 if I remember correctly. Wasn't Old & Fat a semi-successful pro racer at one point? I don't recall that any of the others were well-known people in the industry but who knows.

Old and Fat frequently (really frequently like pretty much to the exclusion of anything else) posted that doping is rampant and he could prove it and oh the stories he could tell. But he refused to give any specifics of any kind, ever. It was a strange sort of ventilation.

always a lurker here. Never did understand the whole Goatroper thing with all the motor cycles etc. Lots of strange people back then. A few I have not heard of for years. Bob from SF, harlot during 9/11, and the guy who always posted great photos from the northwest. Who I think pissed everyone off. Lots of heated debates then. And a couple from a long time ago on velo and even before on aol. They lived it DC area and on weekends always did 200 mile rides and the wife always had a huge fanny pack. They always posted great photos

As a postal employee I always felt that I should get some of the settlement.

Everton was a Brit that I was on Facebook with but he's dropped off the radar. He had some drinking issues when he was a forumite and would post really weird incoherent stuff.

Jennifer is a real person, I had some email exchanges with her and found an editor for her on a project she had.

Ambling Rose, etc. got booted several times from the forum but popped back when he found a different computer/ ip address. I saw a comment on an article from a western newspaper that has his writing style and was signed with one of his idiotic alias's. I was sorely tempted to sign in just to torment the guy... he and I were oil and water. He was from Portland, OR.

Bobs wire is on Facebook and still rides a lot. Great stories from him about the old San Francisco hippie scene.

Remember the patent attorney who used to post patents he found that related to bikes? Those were great posts.

David Detmar, the retired guy from TX that rode a jillion miles. Another good guy.

So Jennifer was both real and a single person!?! I'll be damned. It would be cool to meet her, just to acknowledge her awesomeness.
I think the Northwest photo or photo borrowing poster mentioned above was Danboo. Good pics, either borrowed or his own. As a medical person I can say what he posted was worrisome for someone who was seriously disturbed. So much performance art on the interweb I admit I may be wrong, but the online persona was mentally ill, and in a creepy way.

I've met (really, he came up to me) Aluminum Frog/Ambling Rose several times at the St Honore Boulangerie, the French bakery that broadcasts the TdF on a wide screen every July. Seemed like a reasonable guy, probably a stockbroker/financial or high tech guy. Not my type and it we don't cross paths again, it's no sweat off my back but seemed much more reasonable n person than online.

Jennifer was pretty special. What a source of level headed knowledge. Too bad several posters had issues with her combination of gender and smarts and drove her off.

Sounds like there could be an entire college course dedicated to studying the various online personalities found on the defunct Velonews forum. I miss the mostly respectful discourse. Ah, the days before Facebook!! I recall Gurb posted pictures of him 'cruising' at 34mph on his light blue steel sled and getting raked over the coals for proclaiming his mastery of 40+ mph sprints down in Houston.

Can't believe Ben actually met Ambling Rose/Aluminum Frog in real life. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if he had been the devil himself.

That said, I really miss that forum. It was like walking into a bar that was filled with -mostly- friendly individuals that you shared a passion with and could learn so much from. Respectful discourse, helpful tech notes and general education about the world.

Going back to the whole Lance thing, I'll admit to having enjoyed listening to his Stages podcasts. It's like getting a behind-the-scenes view of a Broadway show which is what professional cycling has become. And let's be honest, always has been.

Haven't seen Gurb in a while but he was part of an evening "death ride' that numbered 20+ racers would reach 35+ in leadouts for sprints and would often see just how fast the group could go on a couple of stretches. He wasn't exaggerating beyond what any racer would do. It was a fast and scary ride. Old and Fat was an ex-pro who rode with LA for awhile. Seems like he got more specific as time went on and he was exactly right. I apologised on-line to him after mistakenly falling for the Lance BS and accusing him of making it up.

Back to the OP:
Feds are now suing Bruyneel.
Floyd got 1.1m. He owes almost half of to the 1700 folks who gave him money to fight the doping charges (Floyd Fairness Fund). So he’ll keep about 600k.
