I've been getting reminders a lot recently. Most of you know I had a close brush with a fork breaking two weeks before Cycle Oregon started and that this brought memories of my crash years ago from an almost identical failure that came very close to being my end.
Well, completely unrelated - one of Portland's finest musicians died of a sudden heart attack last May, the jazz, blues, soul and gospel pianist, Janice Scroggins. Saturday, her frequent partner, vocalist Linda Hornbuckle, died of kidney cancer. Another incredibly gifted musician, and like Janice Scroggins, as humble as can be. I learned of the Linda on the local blues radio show on the drive home tonight. This afternoon, I tried googling a former schoolmate as I will be in her state next month. Came across a scholarship fund in her name.
Go see the people you have loose ends with. That classmate was one of those people.
"It can wait." Not always.

It's not just how long life is, it's how wide and deep. Let's go ride.

I'd listen to these guys most Saturdays for many years, occasionally learning something, and usually getting a good laugh or two.

Thanks Yo, both for the news (no, I do not like it; I love those guys) and that quote. My Dad passed with Alzheimer's 4 years ago, also an MIT grad. I've met Ray on a 4 hour layover at Logan. Took the subway to Central Square and walked to the Good News Garage. Their advice saved my butt once. (Described a problem common to my car so that when it happened, I knew what was going on.)

they were my gateway drug to npr. sad day.
