I did the LAF ride for the roses fundraiser in 2002. Subway was a sponsor. I got to meet and talk with Jared for a while. Very nice guy, and a truly positive memory from a very well run event. Now it turns out he's a creep who collects child porn and he's going to jail. WTF is wrong with this world?

F#cker needs to be put away for a whole lot longer than they are reporting.

Douchebag.

Need to take a hard look at a culture that financially rewards and is represented by a fat f#ck for losing weigh by eating sandwiches.

I think I hear Nero's fiddle...

I was at that ride. I believe that Robin Williams and Will Farrell also spoke at the start and C. Crow was riding too. Got a picture with Bob Roll and LA at a rest stop and tagged along with his group for awhile. It was an exciting time to be a cyclist in the US. Hope that excitement returns someday but I don't see it.

Williams' impromptu monologue before the ride was hilarious. My only regret is that the routes went east, instead of into the hill country.

I have a different take on this. I'll bet this Jared guy spent his formative years being teased by his peers for his weight (and eating more to comfort himself as addicts everywhere have been doing forever; his drug was food). He came into money and fame. But all the emotions and memories he had been stuffing for years with food were still there. So food was now out. But addictions, until addressed from the core, stay on; they show themselves eventually as a relapse or somewhere else.

Jarad now had the attention of the girls who used to shun him. His addiction noticed. And seeking out those girls worked. The old memories and emotions got stuffed. No different from heroin, alcohol or a million other addictions except for the consequences.

I hope Jared finds real recovery while in prison. If he does, he might actually do more good than he/Subway ever did with the better food platform.

I don't talk about my journey much, but I have spent real time in the rooms, know the stories and have see the changes, both in myself and others. I know folks in prison, have been to the funerals and know others who are now some of our best citizens. You would have had little use for me 15 years ago.

There are no excuses for preying on children. That's where the relativism of our age stops.
