i wonder why there isn't a lock on smart phones that prevent texting when you're moving? maybe anything over walking speed and the texting function wouldn't work. i'm sure it's been thought of before.

I wish there was something since cell-phone drivers cause problems so often for me. But others could be in the car not driving so don't want to affect them.

Here in California a legislator snuck thru a law to allow "hands-free" texting - Apparenlty talking to your phone to send a text. the phone can read a text to you. The law was so undercover that the various driving safety lobbies were astonished when the done-deal was reported and they had not even heard it was in the process. Governor signed it without comment (but he vetoed a bill to make penalties for cell use and texting more strict).

BAD BAD idea to enable any kind of phone use while driving. Why on earth don't politicians realize that driving is the most dangerous thing most people do - and then go about making it even more dangerous!?!?!?!

Just more ways for stupid people to prove their stupidity!!

IMHO texting while driving should be treated like DWI.

I'm sure there is a huge lobby behind this. Cars are becoming accessories to smart phones.

No kidding. Car commercials focused on how you can stay connected to world while driving? WTF!

I guess it is a good thing that pretty soon cars will be driving themselves.

O.C., that connection to the world is very well demonstrated by that cyclist plastered on your windshield.

In a sense texting while driving worse than DWI. Both are dangers, yet the texter is doing this willfully and without impairment from the use of alcohol. The texter is stone cold sober and making the decisions as bad as a drunk. Sad that a text cannot wait. Maybe we should just ban texting. Or cars.
