Because I fear that will be next for me.

Started having to wear readers for restaurant menus, and just switched over to a compact crank.

Just waiting for the piddle to run down my leg...

If they do, the tri-folks will be all over that!

Yeah, hair disappeared from scalp and reappeared in ears, nose, back...

yeah that is one of my fears.

hair on the scalp still grows like cabbage but now also in all kinds of body cavities.

Fear not on the compact. I needed it all the time for a good number of years (back issues), now it's simply a good tool to have early season to get into the climbing swing.

I rode the cross gearing all Summer up the climbs and was able to keep the HR much lower - back in Tiburon my HR is peaking with all the climbing with the 39/53.

We'll see if the compact will keep me from redlining or if I just push it anyways ; )

Shaving my legs is the least of my follicular maintenance. Or perhaps my head is...

C2K - You are also correct on that...

Since returning to Marin and getting back on the road bike, several of the long fast descents have me worried - I started getting the wobbles on descents I had no issues with before.

Not sure if it's my lack of riding the road bike, and it's speed, confidence, technique.

Kind of freaking me out as I am a stupid descender - Meaning that I love the speed.

The cycling clothing companies have been doing their market research. They see that their target market is getting older, so they've been quietly preparing us (and the public at large) for the next stage; cycling shorts with absorbent padding for chamoises. That's why chamoises have been getting thicker every year. Next year Assos will bring out shorts with Depends R chamoises for their faithful who have just hit that next milestone. Figure on Segoi and others being about a year behind. Bike Nashbar label in 2017.

We are being looked after.

" I started getting the wobbles on descents I had no issues with before."

Had the same issue with my old frame. Turned out the chain stay had cracked. The replacement frame (specialized roubaix SL3) is super stable. Even so, while I let it go on straight descents, any curves and I take it easy - too much unknown gravel, exposed tar, bumps and dips on the old chip seal roads I ride and I have no need to prove anything.

One thing helps on the mountain bike is replacing the granny gear with a BIG MOUNTAIN GEAR. Same tooth count but it ain't no sissy granny. Yesterday's climb is one for BIG MOUNTAIN GEARS. about 25 minutes of easy climbing to warm up followed by a 2 km climb with 300 metres elevation gain. That's a 15% average grade with only a couple of easier grades and a few walls. Had to get off twice. Once for deadfall and once because I screwed up a rain rut.

Yeah got hair growing out of places where never did before but not where it used to.

On the upside, when you're getting to this stage of your adult life, you can make ghastly plans after drinking a few glasses of wine too many. A good friend and I were talking doing an Ironman next year just now (how hard could it really be?). Once the bet is on...ugghh.

See the parallel thread about the octogenarian busted for steroids. Good to know we have ever-expanding options for better living as we approach geezer-hood.
