I row a couple times a week during the off season. It's the only thing I can do in a gym that doesn't make me want to poke my eyes out.

Weight is of no disadvantage for rowers. Long torsos help, but it is an all-body workout.

Luckily, we are back into the cycling season again.

BTW rowers would say we aren't rowing - we are erging.

Likewise, I row when the situation warrants. I hope to never have enough water in my basement that I have to.

i finally got in the rowing class and we've been at it for about a month. it's a blast. it's a diverse mix of people and a fairly experienced teaching staff. our cox is a cox for the navy rowing team so he has lots of good instruction and motivation. at this point it's not so much strength as form although we do get to push towards the end of each session. so far i've been in 6, 7 & 8 seat, each one is a learning experience. being tall helps except in carrying the boat, my back and shoulder muscles get pretty fatigued hauling the dinosaur of a boat back to the boathouse. the good thing is we are getting noticeably better which is motivation in itself. i'm glad i've had the opportunity.

Hey 79, make or buy some of those push up handles. When I had a cast on it was the only way I could do push ups but it was also a lot easier on my good wrist.

O.C. at various times when I was young, either my dad's dinghy, an able traditional 10 footer with three seats, or my 12' sailboat spent winters in our basement (for repaints, etc.). The joke was that we were prepared for the winter flooding.

The Skinny, for some reason your post didn't display. Maybe a timing thing? Whatever. Have fun rowing everyone. I tried it in college, admired the purity of it and the dedication of some very, very tough athletes, but preferred to look where I was going rather than where I had been.

I have an old 1990 Concept Model B stored in my garage. Rowing used to my main source of exercise until I retired in the late 90's. I seldom (if ever) use it anymore. Weather here in Norcal allows me to ride year round, unless it rains. Since we are in the middle of a drought that is not much of a prob now. I can't stand to exercise indoors. Alas, when the time comes and I can't ride anymore I will resort to using the Concept B and long walks. Rowing is excellent for exercise for the time spent. I just don't find it fun. My old 72 year old body still allows me to ride. ...Every day is a blessing if I can still ride....
