Every week I hear the talking heads say, with a negative spin, FSU barely scraped by for a win. What they should be saying is how amazing it is that a team that has 13 of its starters from last year starting in the NFL this year, a team with the Heisman winner a distraction early and missing a game who is also injured and not as mobile as last year, is WINNING every weekend. Most teams would be thrilled to be 7-5 under the same circumstances. To top it off the committee won't put them in the top spot because they "don't control games". They control the final score pretty well! The new play off system is pretty much the same BS as the BCS...nothing has changed. They are on top of the other polls however.

Contrary opinion here:
Sorry, but FSU sucks compared to almost every SEC west team. The Playoff Committee of Poohbahs is smart enough to get 4 teams that will gain maximum attention for sponsors, so it won't be just 4 SEC west teams playing for the title, which arguably it could be. Best of the rest doesn't include the Seminoles. But undefeated by beating midlevel ACC teams is good enough.

No doubt that the SEC is stronger than the ACC and the SEC pounds each other every week, BUT I'm not overly impressed with them either. The SEC teams play not to lose instead of playing to win, and I don't like that style of football. I only see 'Bamma and Miss SU in the "top 4" conversation (as do the poohbahs). Who are the other two that you see (I see Georgia (E. Div.) as the third SEC team). I think that FSU would beat all SEC teams in the play off (we might find out because 'Bamma could play FSU). If Oregon is clicking though no one will beat them.

If they're on a road to nowhere perhaps someone should be burning down the house

To get this just a little on topic: isn't fsu the sound we hear after running over a tack?

No comments of the pigskin variety.

Even better, the women's world cup is held in Canada with final here in Vancouver. Must buy some tickets.

First appearance for the Dutch women and they barely squeaked in.

Did I read correctly that the tournament will be on turf? Ouch on slide tackles.
As for visiting big events, the 2015 worlds will be in my backyard :-)
That will be fine, and plenty for me.

Not sure if all fields are turf but BC place, home of Whitecaps, is turf and that's where final gets played. Turf is great for highly used fields that service multiple (youth) sports, but not for top level soccer. I always like it when my kids Gold team is forced to experience real grass; completely different game.

Yeah, I'd prefer seeing that one and was thinking about flying over but pooring all moneys and time into Haute Route trip. The mrs would kill me if I took off twice in 2 months.

From ESPN:

FSU = 2 wins against teams with at least 9 wins
Bama = 1 win against a team with at least 9 wins

FSU = Undefeated
Bama = Not undefeated

FSU = from ACC, 4-0 against SEC yesterday
Bama = from SEC, 0-4 against ACC yesterday (SC, Florida, Georgia all LOST)

FSU = scheduled OK State, Notre Dame, Citadel and Florida as OOC opponents
Bama - scheduled WVU, Florida Atl., S. Miss and W. Carolina as OOC opponents

Summary:
FSU has better wins, less losses, better conference, and tougher OOC opponents

More trash talking (hey, it's football!):
FSU slips to 4th in the the Poobah ranking "because they keep having close games against unranked teams". Nothing new there - they've done that all season.
Maybe the real reason they've dropped a place is because their star QB is in the courthouse right now. That's another category where FSU leads Alabama: accused rapists in the backfield.

What about this stat though lsd:

FSU = from ACC, 4-0 against SEC yesterday
Bama = from SEC, 0-4 against ACC yesterday

I've used "boobah" several times since you posted it.

too funny, OSU? Did Urban buy that spot?! LOL

IMHO, it should be the top 8 teams, lets make this a real playoff system

Agreed.
There now are teams left out of the playoffs that could still make a case, though not sure how strong it would be, to have a shot at the national title; teams with only one loss. Eight teams would only add one extra week (vs. currently) to the season, and you're now including those teams that have an "outside" shot. The number 9 team would still complain, but you'll never make everyone happy 100% of the time.
The current playoff system is better than the way it has been, which IMHO is more closely related to a competition - think figure skating. You took the best teams and "voted" on who the champion was. Kinda like the Olympics where the supposed best figure skaters go at it, and the judges declare a winner. To me that is not how a football championship should be decided.
Four (selected) teams allowed to have a playoff is a good start, but eight teams increases the sample size enough to include all the LEGIT contenders and have an even number for the playoff format.

....and yes, I am a Baylor fan. I'm not saying any of the top 4 teams shouldn't be there; I'm saying that list of potential national championship teams is not complete. Baylor & TCU should be in that group of legitimate candidates. Miss State & Michigan State are oustide shots but you need either 4 or 8, and who knows. Any given Sunday (or Saturday)....... Oh and to prove I'm not a homer, if Baylor finished 9th or lower, I'd say they do not deserve to be in it.

yup Red, OSU sneaks in, some how...., Baylor and TCU should be in there, and the Miss teams had a helluva season, lets make it real, and whomever peaks at the right time, wins the whole thing. just like in the pros, if a wildcard team brings it together at the right time, they can win, what's wrong with that? And, like you said, maybe one more week? Right now they have extended this to like a week later? Or one year it was on the 10th? I don't even watch college football by then. I don't know about you, but I'm old school, college football should be done by new years, they all wrap up their seasons around thanksgiving anyway, perfect time to have the playoff system of 8 teams in their system.
Sorry number nine, the rules state 8 teams are in, I think most would be willing to accept that, I would

Add to FSU's cred: their star QB beats the rape rap and will play against Oregon. Last I saw FSU was 7.5 pt. underdogs.

The battle of the O is set. Both teams looked good this weekend. If Oregon can keep clicking, Ohio won't be able to keep up.

Boy did I miss my guesses....thought the Oregon / FSU game would be close and the 'bama / OSU game a blowout for the Tide.

That's why they play the games (and why I don't gamble!!!)
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Oregon Missing their top two receivers did not help. But credit to Ohio state. With Michigan also getting a top tier coach, these two teams will be great for years and their fierce rivalry will return to the limelight.
