| Yeah, I was watching the news last night when he commented on that. How could he 'confuse' not being on the helicopter that was fired on? I always liked Brian Williams, now I wonder about the guy. There goes his credibility... |

I watched this evening, taking bets with my wife on whether Brian Williams/NBC would address the elephant remaining in the room or take the cowards way out and risk ignoring it in the hopes it will go away.
They ignored it. That's what I bet on ; )

Oh what a web we weave . . .
People are so fallible. (Not excusing anyone here.) Journalists should be held to a higher standard regarding telling the truth. Maybe it was too much time on Colbert and its "truthiness" that lead to his failure. |

| It was bad enough knowing those that control the different "news" agencies were coloring and filtering their product, but to have one of their talking heads, and IMO this country's most prominent newscaster, feel it was worth the risk to outright lie about their personal history scares me in the sense that they, like politicians, corporations, can do and say what they please without any fear of repercussion from the public. |

| The final straw for me regarding news and credibility used straight faced in the same sentence was a news feature on ABC about Disney World…. duh, ABC freaking owns Disney (or the other way around)! It was no more than an infomercial but less entertaining than Ron Popeil. |

They are ALL 'selling' SOMETHING. My wife likes to watch Good morning America. They'll have a 'news' story about some actor, movie, whatever, and I know damn well it is some aspect of the parent company, NBC. It is actually an' infomercial' but maybe I am too much a cynic.
Mr Williams - or any reporter - should not 'be' the news - they should just report, or simply read what is put in front of them. Yes, the best should be admired, and they do- or should - have high standards than are obviously hard to maintain. He failed bigtime.
Has Williams or somebody offered some psychobabble about Williams identifying too much with the soldiers under fire, etc as the reason for him conflating his 'experience' with their reality?
The likes of Murrow, Cronkite and Brinkley are likely rolling in their graves. |

All a news anchor has to do is read the news… it should be a $50,000 a year job.
Here are the qualifications: Good speaking voice, able to read a teleprompter, properly pronounce foreign names.
Most college sophomore English majors would qualify and they'd be darn happy to have a job that doesn't include there script, "Would you like fries with that?" |

| tv news casters are too attractive to be taken seriously. when i do watch the news, which is rarely, i watch pbs news hour because the commentators are not model quality. i guess if it wasn't for the infomercial quality of the news no one would know anything about what's going on in the world. |

I don't watch any network or cable news that originates here in the States except for PBS Newshour. Most of my news sources are of foreign origins - which I don't trust much more than news here, as I am not so naive to believe that everyone doesn't have an agenda...
But more importantly, it feels like every aspect of America is striking towards the idea of becoming celebrity - actors and musicians of course, athletes, politicians, newscasters, etc. All to be controlled by the entities that give them that status.
We are fast becoming a country without honor. Income and celebrity are what we desire, what we feel we deserve, and what we "strive" for.
I hope for a better generation to come along, but god help them overpower what has been established.

I was wondering if Sat Night Live was going to lampoon Williams, but they showed a re-run last weekend.
Just the same, I seriously doubt that they would, as they are the same Network.
Williams will be 'crying all the way to the bank' as my Mom used to say: he signed a $10 mil / year / 5 year contract in December. |

OC - I do agree, but do you ignore this and give Williams a pass? Demonstrating that we will accept more and more BS from all of those in positions of power and influence.
It is a small "victory", but one with enough outcry from the public to garner a response.
We are much too passive of a society. It's refreshing when a few of us throw a stink ; ) |

| the funny thing is, when i think of brian williams (which i didn't until now), i never thought 'oh, that's the guy that got shot at in the helicopter'. now it's 'oh, that's the guy that didn't get shot at in the helicopter'. i don't think that getting shot at really boosted his stature so why lie about it? |
