I'd be so satisfied, there'd be no need ; )

The track record on holding former presidents accountable isn't exactly stellar.

I mean, in a just world W and his crew would be held in solitary confinement in Guantanamo with a waterboarding session as daily exercise.

Still waiting on that one and more so that a Trump conviction to be honest.

I doubt Trump will serve any time or really have any personal penalty to pay for this. Oh sure, his company and some minions will get slapped with prison time and have some financial penalties but for 45 to actually sit in jail? No chance.

Can you imagine the uproar and riots if he is handcuffed and perp walked?
This time his dog whistle would be heard loud and clear by everyone, not just his proud boys and Quidiots (tm), and January 6th will look like a picnic.

I think all those in position to indict and prosecute know the ramification and will let his humiliation serve as sufficient punishment.

I don't think he'll get jail time for the Trump Org $4it, it's the half dozen other charges that those jail time possibilities will come from.

Now that would be bull$4it - cowardice - a travesty of justice to allow a bunch of brain dead Q'anon play 'soldiers' to dictate to our government and hence US, its citizens, how or if a piece of $4it like Trump should should be penalized for his traitorous acts.

"Vice" turned out to be somewhat appropriate alternative punishment for Cheney, apparently it hit a nerve.

A similar deconstruction of T would most definitely hit home. Public humiliation is underrated.

Huck, totally agree it would circumvent justice but if a full-blown insurrection is the consequence of 45 heading off to the pen then which is the worse outcome?

In a fair world Junior Bush, Rummy, Condi, McNamara, and many others would be cooling their heels in Leavenworth.

It's different to have leaders themselves avoid jail time, such as the criminals you listed, BUT TO LET a group of moronic braindead whackjobs dictate justice would be a bad precedent.

Just like Trump's election, that ability would empower/embolden them to do even more heinous acts.

It has to stop. There needs to be a unified front by the majority - the decent citizens of the U.S. and the courts to make a stand. Otherwise the absurdity and stupidity and all the cruelty that accompanies that won't stop, but continue to grow, exponentially.

The precedent set by letting past leadership crimes go unpunished is precisely why current convictions will be so hard to achieve. The scale has been sliding for a long time. The insistence of Obama to "look forward" was one of the key moments in that sliding scale. But fully agreed that at some point a red line will need to be drawn. But by whom?

Yes, Peru.

Germany also drew a pretty strong line this week in case you missed it.

That Germany conspiracy was mainly weird - not minimizing the violence risk, but truly way out there in la la land.
The slow moving US court system convicted some hard core Trumpers of sedition last week related to the Jan 6 events - there is hope for us yet. OTOH, Trump attended a fundraiser for Jan 6 criminals . . . At least more and more Trump enablers are moving away from him - not because he is a dangerous whack job, rather just because he is a political liability. More and more is a lot less than most. Crazy times.

Yes Germany was weird to a large degree (although a military unit was involved) but that the thing about drawing strong lines in sand. You stamp it out when it’s still weird and before it becomes dangerous. I’m sure there was a time when we were still laughing about the Qanon and other crackpots.

Meanwhile here we’re trying to determine where the line in the sand should be. Is it illegal arms deals? Nope. Illegal war with couple hundred thousand dead? Nope. Assassination of a foreign head of state? Nope. Domestic insurrection? Ok wait, let’s think about this one.

The line in the sand should have been Richard Nixon. Once a POTUS or ex POTUS spends time in prison subsequent office holders might have reservations about doing something illegal.

No more, “Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal, by definition.”
