Your post in another thread about "The Art of Racing in the Rain" got me to go look for it on Amazon which reminded me of another good dog book "A Dog's Purpose".

I've not read that one, so I'll have to download it. Thanks for that recommendation.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is recommended for dog lovers but as a custodial dad I am not ashamed to admit I sobbed like a baby reading that book.

I shed tears reading "A Dog's Purpose". As the owner of a 13 year old lab, I will be unable to read any dog books for a while. Its all I can do to keep it together watching my hiking buddy struggle to make it across the yard. She is truly my best friend. I wish that she could live longer (in her younger body)! On one hand I can't imagine ever getting another dog, but on the other hand, I can't imagine living without one. I had dogs as a kid but this is my first dog as an adult (due to trying to be a pro racer, a college student, etc. I didn't start my family until I was well into my 30s). Tears...
EDIT: Has anyone done the research on why dogs don't live as long as humans?
