A (religious, republican) guy here at work who I have never heard say anything political asked "is this the new way of governing? Every time they don't get their way they will shut down the government? Who would reelect these clowns?!"

Also heard: If George W was the prez pushing health care would it be called "Bush Care"?

I'm a member of the Republican Party. I consider myself a 'moderate'. Which means I'm probably no longer a member of the party...

If the Speaker and majority leader had any guts, they would go with the dems and slap the upstarts down. But they are afraid. Blame gerrymandering most of all. 90% get reelected and are under no pressure to move to the center (that's both parties).

In the past, this thread would have been 5 pages by now. This country is in a sad state of affairs. Politicians we elect term after term fail to do the job they promise they'll do. Washington needs a major enima STAT!

saw some amazing statistic the other day; congressional approval rating at 15% yet incumbents have a 90% chance of being re-elected in their districts, as LSD noted. our system isn't working anymore!

Been reading Who stole the American Dream by Hedrick Smith. Explains a lot and tells why that 1956 repub poster is the real thing...

So the government shutdown is supposed to save money? I just heard that the last shutdown actually cost us $1.2 billion. I didn't fact check that but it wouldn't surprise me. FN politicians!
