I have been suffering for 3+ years with frozen shoulder in both shoulders. It is a fugly thing where the shoulder just plain hurts and your mobility is seriously limited. I am only now able to reach back in my jersey pockets with my right hand. My left shoulder is slowly, very s l o w l y resolving itself, but my doc has mentioned using steroids to help get both shoulders back to full function. Anyone here have experience with taking steroids for this kind of thing? Do I need a TUE beforehand?

I ate loads of steak while in Spain but that was before all this frozen shoulder crap. Maybe I should get some clenbuterol steaks from Berto...

Here's a useful simplification: three types of steroids:
Anabolic (body builders)
Cortisone and similar (reduce inflammation among many other things)
Sex (testosterone estrogen and related)
Effects overlap
A steroid shot or an oral steroid dose pack has virtually no downside and can work wonders, sometimes, with painful inflammation.
Someone may chime in regarding their aunt who took high dose corticosteroids for a long time and had nasty consequences. This is unrelated.

We discussed it and it sounds bloody terrifying. I have a friend who had it done and she said it was the most pain she has ever experienced.

That sounds like hell. I can't even imagine the pain upon waking up after that procedure.

Pain is managed well for most with drugs. Temporary. Results can be great.

Mom had a frozen shoulder due to a broken wrist and having her arm immobilized for some time. She had to have that procedure done and it was under anesthesia. After that she would use her index and middle finger to walk her arm up the wall and back down to keep it limbered up and help with rehab, but I digress.

Anyway she did well with the procedure and never mentioned any particular pain. That said she was from a different generation and she, like dad, wouldn't have said much if a finger got gnawed off by a rabid dog with dull teeth.

Side note- the skill of the anesthetist makes all the difference in the world how you feel coming out of the OR.
