I simply do not ride in groups of people I don't know. They just become brain dead while in groups. Word. the bigger the group, the dumber it is.

c2k_rider - if what you say is true, then there are real problems in your area, and you are spot on. i cannot fathom just blowing a stop sign at full speed. really, don't these guys know there a case recently where a dumbass cyclist blew a stop sign and killed a pedestrian? can't they follow Dale's logic? When a cyclist screws up-- blow a stop light or whatever-- and gets nailed by a car, the cyclist dies or is injured. When a motorist screws up-- blow a stop light or whatever-- and nails a cyclist, the cyclist dies or is injured.

In SF in the last two years two pedestrians have been killed by cyclists blowing through cross walks filled with peds. (in at least one of those cases the cyclist did not run a red, he had a yellow, so the ped was also at fault for not allowing the intersection to clear before proceeding. However, the cyclist was charged because he had been witnessed blowing through several red lights at full speed just previous to hitting the pedestrian.).

oops, forgot there are others even lower on the food chain that cyclists My bad and it as not my intent to be flip about cyclist disobeying laws, just trying to attempt to illustrate a point... which evidently I didn't fully get myself

Deer Creek Canyon is a fantastic ride! I live a few miles from Deer Creek Canyon and ride it almost weekly. The two primary ride options are: 1200 ft gain over 8 miles or 3000 ft gain over 14 miles. The canyon has a new bike lane for the first 4-5 miles. After that it is canyon roads with some blind curves. The curves have speed limit of 15 mph. I am not a pro rider, but I ride these curves at 10 plus mph. Needless to say, going down hill I can travel faster than cars. The bottom line: Drivers in the canyon need to slow down, and remember that it is a canyon road and not highway. Cyclists have to respect the canyon as well. The biggest issue for cyclists is riding two abreast. Cyclists need to ride single file as posted in the canyon.
