Around the Columbia gorge over the bridge of the gods. I like to do it a few times a year. Sure is sweet now with lots of fresh pavement. My legs were sore from the start from a long day rock climbing on Sun, but I couldn't sit home another day with weather like this (80, clear, low humidity), and besides, I'm starting a job in a week that will be 12-hr days : ( Left my place in Vancouver, managed not to get flattened by semis on Rt 14, didn't stop until the top of Crown point where I punctured my fresh Conti Sprinter (glass...). I kid you not, I talked with 3 solo riders over the next 20 mins or so, and all were in their 50's and recently retired. Living the life, riding all the time on nice machines. Who ARE these people retiring young enough to enjoy life? Apparently MUCH smarter and with more vision than myself 25 yrs ago. I will have to literally work until I cannot, (and then have a tragic accident). I'm 55 and broke, no retirement savings. Career/life has not gone quite as hoped! But enough about my problems, lol!!

Sounds cool, what's the loop? Out 14 on the north side and back on hwy 30? Do you ever do a loop up the gorge and up to the Swift Reservoir? I'd guess that would be a little long, like 150mi.

I hear you on the 50's and retired thing. I'm trying to walk the fine line of enjoying Today and planning for Tomorrow at the same time. As long as you have your health, you are golden.

Nice...but where's the pics? Is this the ride that our old friend Danbook used to post pics off, I remember those being pretty spectacular.

I started my first real job at age 39 so thoughts of early retirement are probably premature even though I manage to work less and less every summer now that I've got a team to crack the whip over :-)

Funny you mention that! I did attempt that loop last Sept. - would have been 140mi. Had a really weird experience. Was well trained for it. Rode out 14 to Carson, up N over Old Man pass, but along the reservoir started to melt down: dizzy, nauseous, shaky. Seemed like the worst bonk ever. Thought I was gonna vomit. In Cougar I egged a ride back to battle ground, then rode the rest home. I wanted a rematch with it this year, but the job I'm about to start will pretty much mean I hang up my wheels. Too bad.
