After riding and racing year round for twenty years, I took a full winter off the bike. No long frozen days avoiding ice and snow. No spring rides through the cow dung run off. I committed to skiing with the family each weekend and some weekdays since mid-November. My wife, second grade son and myself logged over 50 ski days.
Sadly it all ended today. A beautiful spring day we got first chair and closed the mountain.
When we got home, it was still light out. While unpacking the car, my son looked at the bikes hanging in the garage and said.
"Dad, wanna go for a ride?"
We did not have much light so we tooled around the neighborhood for 20 minutes and made plans for a ride when he gets home from school tomorrow.
Now the bike bug has hit. First race is in May! Bring it. |

where's that giant like button when you need it. my winter was spent largely on the sideline of soccer fields in the pissing rain. this week were U12 gold team tryouts for the kid and we got out his bike to get there for first time since winter. On way back from each session he pulled out some mean sprints that left me scrambling for gears; then with a big grin on his face, "going fast is fun". Maybe he'll see the light of day. Maybe (I am not pushing it) |

Nice. Growing up on the prairies where riding was nearly impossible, the first spring ride was always so good. I kind of miss the more distinct seasons where the sports had to change. |

Portland does suffer from run-on seasons. Kinda like the sentences. Some winters we actually get a week where we cannot ride but for the most part, it is just a choice, fenders or no? As one who never liked driving just to go recreate, and therefore, not having snow or ice to play on, this riding bit does get a little monotonous. Ben |

I am happy we don't get much snow and a few winters have passed with barely a flake. It still rains too much and there is black ice. I do sometimes wish the snow was not 300 km away because I would love to have more to do than ride through the cold and wet. I Don't really like to exercise to stay in shape I like to play and as a result be in shape. The gym is a boring place. |

I meant to say where winter riding was nearly impossible. |
