been an interesting 18 months. freaked out, quit career, became frame builder, gave away a dozen frames, had "bad businessman" epiphany, went broke, quit riding, drank alot, scored an ideal gig in old career, started recovery of bank accounts, eased back on the sauce a couple months back. took this out yesterday, put road bars on it, aired it up and tuned it up, can't wait to get back out there tomorrow. i think 25'll do for a first ride in almost 2 years.

it's a shame the frame building gig didn't work out for you but i bet that's a tough business to be in. it sounds like quite the adventure, probably a good story in there somewhere. have a good ride.

Thanks, y'all. It's been an adventure allright. The year "off" was a much needed break from a decade in the office, though I went a little too far the other way. Ben- that's the one frame I managed to keep for myself (the better half and several friends got the rest). I slapped flat bars on it when I built it up (with a complete nos suntour sprint group), rode it to the store a few times, hung it on the rack. Today was the real maiden voyage- it's a bit of a tank, but smooth as can be and tracked really well on the 30 miles of hills I just did. Mighta should have been a little more modest in the first ride back- the legs have that old familiar jelly feeling that used to take 3 times the miles to acquire.

skinny- as of now, no. i partnered with some former co-workers and am now in the field every day as a business owning land surveyor. i've been knocking down 80+ hour weeks for the last few months- making hay while the sun shines, as it were, and it's shining pretty bright in this neck of the woods right now. hopefully at some point sooner rather than later i can knock out a bike here or there, as i'm sitting on several thousand dollars worth of tubing, lugs, silver, and a jig (not to mention the credit card bills for all of that), but it has to take a back seat for now.

i've been drawing assloads of surveys lately, more so than actual projects, but not 80+ hours worth thank god. did you take a frame building class and get sucked into it? i thought about it but it's way too expansive for just a hobby for me and certainly not for a business. i'm way too lazy for all that responsibility. sitting behind a desk sucks but it's in the a/c and it pays well. hope you had a good ride.
