Fine, I'll admit it...I'm week and effectively carrying a 50lb anvil on my back compared to the glory days of racing. Having NEVER given up on any climb, I've recently been forced to turn around on numerous occassions due to lack of strength and bad gearing. While I need to confirm this, I'm pretty certain I have a 27t on the back and a 39t small ring. Can the DA rear der. handle a 28? I just need that little extra bit

Probably but a smaller front ring might be better. Excuse to buy a new compact crank.

With a 34/50 you can go to the 11/28!

I just can't bring myself to use a compact. They look anemic, but that's just my opinion. Plus, I already have $3600 invested in an SRM with 39/53 chainrings.

I found a DA chassette that is 11-28 and might give it a shot. I just didn't know what the capacity was.

when I got my new bike last year, my buddy said "get the Dogma". Nope, don't want to get involved in something my body can't back up.

I have DA Di2 on my Strong.

53-39 front
11-28 on the rear

It shifts fine both front and rear.

I have run 11-30 with a compact crank. Worked fine with Ultegra Di2

I have 11x28 with 53/39 SRM all 7900 in the drivetrain and it works super well. Understand the SRM, have the same setup along with compact on a couple other bikes, and agree it looks a bit anemic. Got over it climbing Hogpen Gap last September with 50/34 and 11x28 with Powertap 404's. Hogpen was the only climb i used the 28 but boy I could'a got in a jacuzzi and had sex with it afterward. Only time I've ever had a cadence north of 60 rpm on that climb.

Thanks for all the advice. I just ordered a 11/28 Ultegra cassette and am anxious to give it a shot. Just yesterday, I finally managed to get to the top a climb near my house using the 39/27. It was anything but pretty but I made it. 1800ft of climbing in 13 miles! I'm hoping that the 28t will let me spin just a little bit more. I think my cadence had dropped to about 10!! It was pretty bad.

1800ft in 13miles? 1800ft in 13 miles???? That is a false flat! ------------------------------ Change your avatar to a bull dog from that fluff cat and you'll be climbing like Roberto-----------------I guess this forumware does not allow paragraphs. How do the dashed lines work?

Also, if you like climbing, I'd ditch the 11 tooth. You admit you are not really in race fitness, so the 11 does nothing for you except to cut out a gear in the mid-section of your cassette. 12-28 would serve you better.
