I haven't been back to the other site since making the move here.  Is anybody visiting both sites?  I figure it sends a message  that some people are gone and not reading their site any longer.  I know that they don't care about the froum but they might care that I'm not reading their news or reading their sponsor ads.

Hello all.  I checked the old VN Forum this AM.  Inferno posted about the inventor of the Schwinn Stingray passing.  Nice article. I think the rest was SPAM

Thanks to KR for easing the transition, and special thanks to Steve here at Velonation for the welcome!

Hey Steve, thanks for the new cyber home!

When I'm not logged in my actual name, Justin Maines, appears under topics that I have started. Once I log in it shows my user name, jmdirt. I'm not concerned about the crew seeing my name but thought that was odd. I don't need anonymity from the forumites but its nice to be invisible to googlers.

Auto clicked on my book mark this morning when I was doing my morning "internet routine". I may continue to take a peek in the same way one can't resist at looking at a bad car accident. It will be interesting to see if any of the members there decide to be in the dead enders club and continue to hang out.

I really should just delete th bookmark.... but bad car accidents and all that ;-)

For 10 years Velonews was my home page. Now it's Velonation. I'll go back and check periodically, but it will not get a bookmark. Sorry Velonews, you have to earn that.

I just came today because I had log in issues. But now that I am all set, it's bye bye velonews except for some articles. They are going to lose a lot of page views I think which does translate to ad dollars since we were heavy users of the site and generated ad impressions.

I've not been back except to respond to a private message. I suppose this is my test post here. Can anyone explain the buttons above the typing pane? ('B', 'I', 'U', 'Quote') I know what they mean, but not how to use them on. Sorry if someone's already commented on this question!

bold italics underline your point

Click on the button you desire and insert your text between the expressions e.g. the b and /b (I had to omit the square brackets that will show up, they need to be there)

The automatically insert the correct syntax to Bold, Italicize, underline or quote. Just type or paste whatever you want to emphasize in the middle of the syntax after hitting the appropriate button.

I went back today and read a weird flame about people leaving and "not supporting Velonews". If it's posts they want, they're getting gobs of support from spambots, hardly need actual human beings. If it's actual cycling fans they want (who might be interested in the advertisements they are paid to post) . . .

I would mostly like to see the moderators stop deleting the spam over there so we can all see how truly bad it is and know for certain the move is justified. (and for those feeling dirty for going back to Velonews, it wasn't the only forum I visit. I'm not sure the word "monogamy" applies to internet based forum relationships...)

I took a quick visit over at the old place. The remaining three were gloating that the spam drove all of us out and they now have tho place to themselves. I gotta admit they're on to something. Spam will never talk back.

If you want a real laugh go back to the old stomping grounds and look up pages 438, 437, 436... this was right after the new forum replaced the old one-- you remember, the one with the post tally? Anyway, it's a stroll down memory lane: Superfrenchie calling out LA, Danboo threatening to leave, AF whining that Barry called him out-- man, I laughed myself silly this morning reading some of that stuff.

here's band member's plea to the spambots for restraint...

"This board should be open for everyone to post. We dont mind a few posts about products we might be interested but that should not be the main reason you vist the board. The old mods wanted a spam free board, which we realize is not posible or ethical. The Velonews Forum is a place that welcomes everyone and everything, as long as its legal. So what I am asking is that you cut back on the amount of product posts you post on on this board and we might even click on some and buy a thing or two. Otherwise I would hate to hae it where it went back to the way it was before. Plus you will eventually ruin the board for everyone. I know that you guys in your country think Americans are great people to sell stuff to but there is only so much stuff we can buy.

Thanks for your cooperation."

Actually, I think it has been a "reasoned decision" on VN's part to let the Forum alone, so that everyone would leave in disgust and they could eventually shut it down. Hard to come to any other conclusion given their total lack of interest in easily fixing the spam problem.... The only problem with that is that the 'gang of three' would have to find a new home, and it will probably be here. So enjoy the civility while it lasts...

Spear and band is a genius. As I understand, they are posting the china revolutionay text to scare off the spammers or have them jailed by association. I reaalize now that spammers only start new threads. We could have survived posting only in stickies. Oh well we are here now...

Not yet, we need to get picked up by the Chinese search engines which then will trigger the great chinese firewall and the spammers wn't be able to access to forum if the Chinese govt. blocks it. The only problem could be if the chinese are really ruskies. The we go after Putin. I think this will work!!!
