Those ostriches are clearly set up as CX machines. Scary if they were dialed in for pavement. Especially if they went with the aero gear CK loves so much.

He needed to get closer for a good draft.

At times it is hard to find motivation, and sometimes motivation finds you.

Ostriches can hit a top speed of 40MPH. Fastest land bird on earth. I once out sprinted an Rottweiler, which can reach 30 MPH for short distances. But I think he was out of shape.

Zoot, I got paced down a hill in my racing days by a whippet. He (she?) was laying on the front steps of a big house with equally big front yard in affluent Lexington, MA when I came along. I saw him first and gave it my all. As I passed the front walk, he up and came after me. He was 12 feet behind me at the corner of his yard! Pulled up next to me and just paced me to the bottom, turned around and trotted home. Job done.

I was on my racing bike, in form, not tired and riding "B" race sewups. 53-13. That dog could have beat me to any finish line anywhere on that hill. Humbling. And the coolest chase I've ever been given. Classy dog/competitor. No bark, no growl, no threatening anything. Just a quiet cruise at the fastest speed I could do. (35-40?)

An ostrich can run a marathon in 45 mins flat, no kidding. It wasn't even trying in the video. https://www.quora.com/What-animal-can-run-the-fastest-marathon The latest danger on the road...being caught between two sets of skinny lycra clad humans on carbon horses

That ostrich wasn't chasing anybody.

Just trying to get away from the f#cker with the camera chasing it from behind. You could see it trying to find a safe path off the road where it could continue to run - away from them.

I know - too serious. But that stresses me out for the animal. and then some dick says it was chasing his friends...

I wish the bird had turned around and attacked the douche chasing it - now that would have been funny and deserved.

LOL Huck - I was trying to point that out in a somewhat friendlier way.

A smart ostrich would have gone to the side of the road and stuck his head in the ground...

I watched that video and it reminded me of the day I approached a very large dog (I thought) from behind on a Saturday morning riding into Portland. It was in my bike lane going my direction. Veered (ostrich-like) to the right traffic lane and did that for a while. As I got close, moved to the left lane, then the left bike lane, then back to the left lane, always picking dead center of whatever lane it chose.

When I got close, I could see the "dog" was a handsome and very large ram, the biggest I have ever seen, long dirty white wool and distinctive black face and legs. This unique show continued until the ram entered a 5 corner intersection. Now confronted with viable lanes going in all different directions, it was baffled. As I pulled into the 7-11 to call the authorities a man in a pickup stopped and appeared to have some idea what he was doing, so I left to let him do his work and continued. Quite a sight!

My ram was that ostrich very slow motion!
