First time on the road bike since August and I messed around with my saddle all morning long.

On the bike, stop and adjust/ on the bike, stop and adjust/ on the bike/ stop and adjust.

It's like I haven't been on that bike in my life!

Disappointed...was expecting some great tale of massive speed, etc.

To which I had already planned a response of "Tailwind, huh?"

Heading down to FL on Friday for Spring Break....made it out a couple of times this year already (shocker!), but a full week on the TT bike will undoubtedly see me tweaking my position the whole time.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

No Dale, you haven't imitated Eddy Merckx until you have mastered messing with the seat while riding. I saw a documentary long ago of Merckx after his crash. (Ironically, I saw this a couple of months after my crash.) A lot of footage of him sitting in long breaks, hanging on the back, clearly in pain, and pulling out an Allen key frequently to tweak the seat height.

That same movie had footage of him probably later that season (foreign flick, no sub-titles) in a road race. Late in the race but miles from the finish he attacked over and over until no one was left on his wheel, then soloed in. My impressions from that movie? That guy was tough!

By that token I rode like Eddie halfway up Independence Pass in 2003 with a seatpost that kept sliding down. Kept fixing it on the fly until a fiendlY mechanic passed by to help me out (had met him the day before on Evans).

I've been off my bike for long periods due to injuries and illnesses. Your bike was dialed in when you were in top shape. It will take awhile to get it back... don't mess with that saddle height too much. Could lead to injury. Your body needs to adapt to the rigors of riding again...hang in there, it will eventually all come back...
