Garmin question

Well, it's finally happening.  After two postponements we are leaving for Italy in 12 days!!!  Woohoo!!!  First week we are basecamping out of Bologna and training about to different cities.  Week two is cycling across the country from Rimini to Porto Santo Stefano.

My Garmin question, is loading the Garmin map files for Europe into my Edge 1030 going to completely mess up the dang thing or do these downloads go smoothly?

Any insights greatly appreciated!

EDIT:  By "training about" I do not mean bike training.  I meant Prediamo il treno a delle citta'.  Choo choo!

I have no answers (no Garmin) but whenever I have questions like this I always ask Google. This shows up, perhaps useful:

Thanks OC. I went to that thread and based on a suggestion went to "browse map" and zoomed waaaay out and sure enough I could slide over to Europe and zoom into Italy with roads starting to show up the more I zoomed in.

I did "check" the device and it indicated a map of Europe was there but I kept seeing a message about insufficient room for the map. However, that was there for my US map as well and it works fine. I dunno. Anyway, looks like it's on there.

I just got back from Norway and my Garmin 1030+ worked fine.
And by fine I mean I never got lost and could always see the route that had been loaded.
