On an related note, it was very pretty rolling ride with great ocean views. Lots of traffic though this am...Freeway is no better than LA! J |

You are in my backyard! I live in Oceanside. I love riding down PCH, but around this time of year there are lots of beach-goers and you risk getting t-boned by boneheads with surfboards. Camp Pendleton is pretty awesome to ride through. All that you need to enter the base is a driver's license. (If you are interested, I can give you a good route to follow that will take your through the base.) Oceanside has a bike trail that begins just south of Oceanside Harbor. If you hop on it, it will take you inland about 7 miles and drops you relatively close to Fallbrook, which is fun to ride through....specifically getting off at College --> Vandegrift --> North River Rd -->Sleeping Indian -->Burma -->Olive Hill --> Mission--> Hwy 76 west back to College to get back on the bike trail. (Sleeping Indian has some nice climbs and some beautiful views.) If you go south to Manchester, there is a nice little loop that will take you through Olivenhain, Rancho Sante Fe, San Marcos, down Del Dios Hwy down to the Del Mar area and back. I can link you to my Strava route for this and it would be easier to follow, if you are interested. |

Good to see CC has you covered. Knew you were close to her terrain. I used to live in South County and would highly recommend driving down the 805, take the Telegraph Canyon exit. Stop by the McD's, mount the bike, and head inland as far as you can go on TC. (Appx 18 - 20 miles). Then hang a left, go slightly uphill to the base of Honey Springs then make a right. 7-mile Uphill TT course. Without getting you lost as there are numerous routes back, just turn around and ride the reverse loop.

Will you be around on Saturday? I could be talked into a Camp Pendleton / Oceanside Harbor ride and meet up. From my Mission Viejo LBS (Rock-n-Road Cyclery) to Oceanside Harbor is a 90-mile round trip. |
