I find it odd that this type of action is not advised - hell, yea.

Similar story to how I got my stolen car back years ago. Police are really no help in these matters as they are more focused on their increasing role as our domestic military.

Yeah, I know the story was in Canada - just had to add a side rant ; )

I retrieved a bike that had been stolen from me sort of like that. I was riding home on the bike replaced through insurance and saw this tall dude on my old bike sans decals. I am not tall and this guy was over 6 feet looking riduculous on a small Norco Team Issue with a 15 inch seat tube. I confronted him. He literally gave me the bike claiming to have "bought it off an Indian guy for $50 from a van in the park and fled. Sold it and gave the proceeds to the Insurer.

Many years ago I had a guy trying to retrieve "his" bike which really was mine. He had a buddy, a truck and a baseball bat entered the scene. To this day I don't know if he was a pissed off guy who really thought mine was his bike or if they were a bunch of thugs trying to dispossess me of mine. I wasn't gonna hang around to figure that one out and managed to escape, just. That too happened in Vancouver, just like the tough chics retrieval.
