Copy/Pasted from the competitor post Mon July 8: Estes Tue July 9: Colorado Springs Wed July 10-Fri July 12: Leadville Sat July 13: Boulder or Denver. Let me know if you have recommendations for places to stay or not to stay in either of these towns. Same w eateries. Would be fun if folks in the area want to hook up for a beverage. Or better for a ride. Tentative list is Trail Ridge Rd., Evans, Independence Pass, Copper Triangle. Part of Peak to Peak if there's time and energy on Sat, which I doubt there will be. Cheers and thanks! Inferno7 said: You could stay at the Bradley Boulder Inn just off of Pearl St. and near the Pearl St. Mall which will offer dinning and entertainment. It's a B&B so you get a breakfast, also check the Hotel Boulderado same thing but not a B&B. Maybe we could get a small group together to ride with you, as there are many in the forum from the area.

I could possibly maybe tentatively join you for a climb to Mt Evans. The simplest way to do it is from Idaho Springs and ride the race course (28 miles). For an interesting challenge and a long day, you can start from somewhere on the Front Range (I used to start from Morrison to Squaw Pass to Mt. Evans and back to Morrison: at least a 6 hr ride for a total of 95 miles or so).

Let's get in touch closer to the day. Mind you I will likely be crawling not being used to the elevation. With some longish days planned after I think I will keep this one pretty short, starting from Idaho Springs.

Things are shaping up for week of July 8

Mon/Tue in Estes with the Trail Ridge Ride on Tuesday

Wednesday early drive down to Idaho Falls; ride Mt Evans, then transfer on to Leadville.

Three nights in Leadville with Independence Pass on program. Second ride would be either Copper Triangle locally or if things get fancy, drive down to Grand Junction for a ride in and around Colorado National Monument. That one looks really sweet but would be a long haul and early rise.

Saturday back to Boulder to drop off the bike and maybe a short ride on Peak to Peak if time and legs allow it. Saturday night in Boulder and flight back on Sunday.

Bike will be a Roubaix with compact gearing and a 27 in the rear.

OC - looking for post ride report and photos. Enjoy! That sounds like a great maybe even epic ride.

OC- Copper Triangle is a great ride. Three nice passes, excellent descents and plenty of places to refill water and get food. I've ridden it many times and it never gets old. Vail Pass from Vail to Copper Mtn kicks my butt every time, but I like that direction more than the reverse...

Hope you have a blast!

For your Saturday night in Boulder I think the count of craft breweries in Boulder is now in the double digits. I might be around that weekend.

OK, practical question for the locals.

What kind of conditions to expect at altitude (I know it will be windy and radiation will feel much more intense but what temperature range good to bad) and is there a site to get real-time weather information or short-term forecasts for alpine conditions at Mt. Evans etc.?

I'll come prepared for anything but on ride day don't want to be carrying too much or too little. What is the minimum clothing (gear) you'd bring up on a good day?

OC the weather should be great. Temp Mt Evans I would think would be in the sixties or low seventies. If you leave early like 9 chances are you won't see any rain. Pretty rare for morning rain here, usually clouds build throughout the day and if rains typically its in the afternoon. I think in CO summer a base layer sleeveless arm warmers and a lite jacket are all you will need. Not sure where I'll be when you're here but I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks Inferno. I ended up packing for any condition. On my way, but slight detour for a week in London, ON.

Haven't seen a bike in a week, been drinking and eating with our Italian visitors, one more week of this and then I should be fat enough to survive the Colorado excursion.
