I was thinking about chris king hubs for the new bike (NOT a fixie!), mostly for the bling factor and matching BB and HS. Anyways, I've read they are really loud compared to other hubs like say DT240. Anyone know if this is still the case?
Internet videos of these things are cringeworthy.

I don't know if they have changed, but they were REALLY loud back in the day when I was in the business. You won't sneak up on anyone with them, that is for sure!

They sound like angry hornets when they're in freewheel mode.
I had a set of wheels built with White Industry hubs.. also nice bling factor, no matching headset or BB
Beautiful sound to them, fwiw

I have heard some talk about them not working well with Campag 11 speeds. If you are running Campag 11, you may wanna look elsewhere.
has some sort of spacing issue with the freehub, I guess.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Has Campy quieted their hubs? My 9-speed Chorus hubs are loud coasting. (I got truly spoiled riding for years/decades on SunTour Winner FWs. With a few miles and some oil, silent. Like a bike ought to be.

Campy hubs are much quieter after a pawl clean and re-lube.

CK R45 hubs are quiet. I've had a few sets and have built scores of wheels with them. Ive also never heard of an issue with their Campagnolo compatibility. They supply their own cassette lock ring, I could see it being an issue if you use a Campy supplied lock ring instead of the CK one. Their flange geometry for Campagnolo is quite good, about as good as its possible to get.
Their mtb hubs are louder, for sure.
About 80% of the wheels I build now are with White Industries hubs. If Campagnolo and Shimano made their top hubs more suitable for aftermarket builds if use both in a flash, but they don't offer enough drillings to be useful. The DA hubs that are supplied with Shimano wheel systems are different than their aftermarket hubs in that they use angular contact bearings, not loose balls. Don't know about Campagnolo, but many/most Fulcrum hubs are cartridge bearing.
CK hubs are expensive - I think a bit too much so - but very good.

I have the CK R45 hubs, they are no louder than a set of Mavic QRM I have on another bike when coasting, they have a different, but not louder, sound than the QRM.
Some say coasting is inefficient.

Decided to go with the WI hubs. If the local shop wasn't handling the full build, I'd just go with November. Looks great.
