I touched on this in a different thread, but I don't want to high-jack that one, so I'm starting a new one. We bought my wife a hand-pedal trike, and now we need a rack to carry it. We are adding a trailer hitch to the car. I am looking for a rack that can carry two upright bikes and one trike. The bikes are a standard road and a 29er. The trike is 65" long with 24" wheels. Side-by-Side was looking at www.hitchrider.com/trike-bike.htm, but that looks like it only accommodates one bike and one trike. Another possibility is Draftmaster (www.atoc.com/draftmastertrike.php). The closest dealer to me is about 80 miles. (I live in Orange County, NY.) Do any of you have suggestions?

Without much knowledge about the specifics, I'm thinking you're may have to modify whatever you get. that being said, I'm thinking of the holders that Jeeps use for cargo, the one's RV's use for mopeds/scooters, or the one's people that use the sit down scooters have. With say the Jeep type, you have a platform that maybe you could use short sections of already manufactured wheel trays to strap the bikes down.

I Googled "trailer hitch cargo carrier" and found a bunch of the generic trailer hitch cargo types that I see Jeeps with. Also, maybe a super light weight (Harbor Freight has cheap ones) trailer. Then you have a blank slate/flat surface to work with.

Thanks Nick.
I stopped by the LBS during my ride yesterday to ask for advice. He has one customer with a trike recumbent, and that guy just drops it in the back of his truck.
The problem with a trailer is that it restricts travel on some of the roads in metro NY area. It's an annoyance, not insurmountable, so I guess I should think about it. That would make her scooter easier to take along too.

Oh yes. I remember now. I grew up in NYC and Westchester. I remember having a van with commercial plates for work, and it wasn't allowed on the Saw Mill River Parkway. Same damn van with regular plates, no problem! LOL.
